@jvoros -- could you post the metadata for one or two of the items in question either here (in tags) or on a github gist or so and link to them? Easier to just look at them then to go through all the possibilities.
-
@dstillman would you mind splitting the conversation with padraicrohan into a new thread starting with this post?? @padraicrohan -- it's not your machine, it's the original, long document. It's a little hard to say what's going on, but the old styl…

Depends on what you want in terms of citation style: the easiest would be to move your cursor to the end of the document and click "Add/edit bibliography"
-
Note that Zorero does let you specify a secondary sort already.

Here's the troubleshooting and the relevant info for what details to report, though what you described would be quite odd: sync can fail, but only failing in one direction is highly unusual. https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/changes_not_syncing

Can you create the first example in a new document with just 2-3 citations? If so, could you export the item to CSL JSON, open in a text editor, copy & paste to pastebin.com or a similar code sharing page and link to it from here?

I don't know why you'd think MLA would post an incorrect/incomplete example on their website. All examples they provide are complete. They (quite reasonably) changed their guidance on citing archived website to only include a single URL, the archive…

"Oxford" is also what people in the commonwealth (especially Australia and South Africa) call pretty much any footnote style, the same way folks in the UK call everything that's author-date "Harvard", so it's not a very meaningful label. The above d…

You don't need to authorize the connector (on any browser) for regular use. That message means what it says: you will get prompted when it's needed, which isn't typically the case: basically the only scenario in which you want/need to save to zotero…

Labeled variables in Extra (such as the three examples in your case) are picked up in citation styles, so they work fine. They'll also be migrated once the corresponding fields are added in Zotero, so they're the best way to add additional variables…

which citation style? This looks like an Elsevier style? They do want DOIs in references for easier linking even if they don't show up in the published articles. There do seems to be some issue with metadata, though -- that would depend on how you…

And IEC 62680-3-1:2017 is a unique identifier. It's no less unique or standardized than an ISBN and because other standards (like ISO) have similar IDs, they are typically used in citations. If you look, e.g., at the IEEE citation guidelines for sta…

The Extra syntax treats the ISBN the same way as it would a.dedicated ISBN field, so for citation purposes it's equivalent

the 17th edition styles were also updated to better conform to the 17th edition. It's possible there are remaining issues in the style; ideally we'd want those described and replicated in minimal documents with 2-3 citations, not in the context of …

Et Al after three authors for works with more than 6 is implied by "as in the bibliography" in 13.23 -- you're welcome to ask CMOS about this, they do answer emails, but I promise you adunning's interpretation is what the Manual intends. It would ma…

It literally says in your excerpt "if there are more than six, list only the first three, followed by “et al.”" in the bibliography and says that notes without bibliography should follow the bibliography rules for et al
-
No, it requires up to 6 authors, but only the first 3 if there are more than 6. That's exactly what the style does

Yeah, Chicago has specifically advised against using access dates since the 17th edition, so if you want access dates for items that have a publication date (it will include them for items that don't) you'll want to use a different style.
-
Which citation style(s) are you using? This is determined by the citation styles, it's not a Zotero setting. Both APA and Chicago Manual did away with access date requirements (so they aren't in the style), but many journal styles have kept them.

There's also the question on how desirable it would be for Zotero to be in the Debian repos. Since Zotero doesn't have ESR versions, there's a fundamental disconnect between the Debian and the Zotero release model and that'd lead to a very unsatisfa…

Thanks, that's helpful. The second question remains, though -- while it'd be good to catalogue the ISBN (you can do this now using ISBN: 9782889100248 in Extra) but beyond that I'm unclear of how this is a 'major problem': even with an ISBN field, Z…

-
Could you give an example of a standard with an ISBN? (also, what do you mean by accessibility here?)
-
Can you look and let us know what that item has in the fields Extra and Library Catalog? The problem is because of Extra, Library Catalog will help us troubleshoot
-
The questions are for @dunning and it'd be important which style exactly you're using as well as a couple of examples of what you're talking about.

You should update your Zotero, see the red note at the top of https://www.zotero.org/support/changelog Not certain it'll help, but good chance

What's the goal? RIS isn't well defined and import/export will always be lossy. But it does look like the Wikipedia article tracked down a newer version of Endnote's RIS import/export than what's currently implemented in Zotero, which we can probab…

No, that's a Firefox limitation, has been like that for quite some time. The add-on framework just doesn't allow a dialog there
