Dan, That did it: your 2nd point, about ensuring firefox was down when i deleted localstore.rdf. Very happy to have my screen back again! have a good long weekend.

Thx arggem. The tag selector pane was open, so i resized it, then closed it. But neither "un-stuck" the overall zotero panel. This is a pain in the rear.
