@dstillman, thanks. Apparently, I had misunderstood that using ISBNs to match necessarily meant excluding as matches resources with different ISBNs. This looks to be why, then, two resources can have different ISBNs and still come up matched as dup…
-
@adamsmith, thanks for that clarification. ISBN is listed as a field Zotero uses to determine duplicates as of 2017. Having just come across the same thing, I noticed this thread and tried to register for a wiki account to update that page to elimi…

Thanks, @John Percival. I hadn't gotten back to this yet (obviously) and appreciate your taking a stab at it. It's definitely closer. I left comments on a couple things over on the github submission.
-
@othornse, I could be wrong, but I think I saw in another thread that this is materially related to the issue that's been pending here.
-
@othornse would you by chance be trying to get abbreviations.json to work with a journal title that contains the word "the"? If so, that would be consistent with what I've found at present also.
-
Thanks, @zoltoro. That's a good idea. I'll have to play around with that some.
-
@adamsmith and @bwiernik, I may have stumbled across something helpful here. The sample citation I'm using above is from the "Bulletin of the American Schools of Oriental Research," which already has an entry in the sample abbreviations.json file a…

And now the issue is appearing again, this time on a different machine. But it still resolves when I remove spaces from the filename. Specifications are below: - Word for Microsoft 365 (16.0.14326.20122) 64-bit - Windows 10 Home, 21H1, 19043.1165 …

My issue has now apparently resolved itself. I'm not sure if it was the recent update to the OneDrive client, Windows (to 19043.1165), or Word (to 16.0.14326.20062). But things seem to be working as expected again, even with spaces in the file name.

@adamsmith, on the suggestion that "we should never use a URL where an item has a DOI," that's what I would tend to think. But then the ever-helpful-at-increasing-complexity-SBL-Handbook also says "Both DOI and URL may be included if desired," alth…
-
@adamsmith, SBL Style does use DOIs, but in practice it's only very occasional. The rule in 6.2.25 indicates that PDF ebooks that are print-identical should be cited simply as print books, not as ebooks. In practice (e.g., the journal of the SBL), …

So strange. OneDrive and Zotero have always worked together perfectly well for me. But just this morning, I got the "Zotero experienced an error updating your document" message. Sure enough, removing spaces from the file name (without even closing t…

Thanks for that clarification, @adamsmith. I've 1. Added the sample abbreviations.json file that @bwiernik mentioned on 15 May to my Zotero data directory. 2. Started Zotero. And 3. Selected the MEDLINE abbreviation option in Word. But the sample …

Sorry for the bother, but would anyone be able to tell what I'm missing in my above post from 15 June? Thanks so very much for any thoughts you may have!
-
Thanks @qqbb. I'm running Windows 10 on two machines and having the same issue on both in that Zutilo keyboard shortcuts apparently save but then don't actually work. Yes, I have just come across Zutilo recently. But when I'm on the shortcuts tab o…
-
Has this issue resurfaced with the current beta (5.0.97-beta.29+2fd46157f) and version of Zutilo (v3.9.0)? After I specify a Zutilo shortcut key combination, that combination doesn't flag any conflicts but still doesn't work. And it continues not t…
-
@bwiernik, I now have the abbreviations.json file you mentioned in my Zotero data directory. As an example, I also have the following record in my Zotero database: TY - JOUR TI - Revising Tell Abu Hawam AU - Balensi, Jacqueline T2 - Bulletin of…
-
Thanks, @bwiernik. I'll give that a try.
-
@adamsmith, thanks for that. @bwiernik, am I understanding correctly then that this additional "node in info" isn't something that's currently supported in CSL or Zotero? Thanks so much for the clarification!
-
Thanks to you both. @bwiernik, when you say the "same formatting needs to be applied consistently," am I understanding you correctly to say that it currently needs to be done with manual adjustments on a per case basis?
-
I've submitted the suggestion above by @bwiernik in a pull request on the SBL style. Since this thread though, I've become more aware of the issue of conflicting abbreviation specifications—even within the quite narrow field of biblical studies. E.…

This issue with the space appearing after the section sign(s) now has a pending fix.
-
Similarly, we might take an example with the following journal article Beverly Roberts Gaventa, “We, They, and All in Paul’s Letter to the Romans,” Word and World 39 (2019): 263–73. SBL style requires this journal's title to be abbreviated as WW, an…

Yep, @adamsmith, updating to the newest beta does the trick. Thanks so much!
-
@bwiernik, it looks like there may be a quirk in the citation processor in certain cases. Sometimes, it's necessary to input an en dash rather than a hyphen in the citation dialog in order to get an en dash out (e.g., if a note number is being cite…
-
@adamsmith, if it's helpful at all, I give a short note example in my post above from 8 October. The relevant section in the SBL Handbook is §6.3.4, which @dougherty excerpts above in his post from 18 July. Reviewed authors are included in the note…
-
@bwiernik and @John%20Percival, SBL Press has confirmed that the example given in 4.2.4 is in error. The truncation of the final number in the range should indeed follow the guidance of the Chicago Manual of Style's 16th (and now 17th) editions.
-
@bwiernik and @John%20Percival, pertaining to your comments from 2 August 2020, SBL Press's position is that the SBL Handbook of Style defers to whatever is the most recent version of the Chicago Manual of Style where needed to address various point…
-
@adamsmith, thanks so much. That looks great. But there does seem to be an additional space that's included after the §(§) symbol(s) in both styles. Per the SBLHS blog posts (Hebrew, Greek), the §(§) should be immediately prior to the page number(s…

Hurrah, @adamsmith. Thank you so much!
