The grouping feature sounds like the most sensible approach. There are quite a few citation styles out there using this, and it doesn't feel like good semantic practice to hijack an option called 'subsequent-author-substitute' for what essentially i…

See this topic, which discusses a wrinkle that needs to be fixed before we can get these styles to work.
-
See this topic for a related issue.

Agreed. So the residue of this discusson is that it would be good for a variety of reasons if Zotero supported some form of simple in-text citation markup.
-
Not currently, unfortunately - you are right.
-
Jahardin, using csledit.xul (type chrome://zotero/content/tools/csledit.xul in your address bar), select a few records, and preview all available styles to find the one that matches most closely. If you can enumerate the key differences with Chicago…

I would think having an in-text citation markup standard would make the processing part a bit easier, because then the scanner at least knows what kind of stuff to look for.
-
I just want to add another vote to this. While in my workflow, reference management is more than just 'icing on the take', I fully agree that having a couple of simple plain-text codes for in-text citation is an essential feature for cross-operabili…

I think we all agree that a visual cue (flag, colour, whatever) would be good to have. To reiterate, what I was suggesting is to kill two birds with one stone: flag items based on their tags. Thunderbird does this for email: set all work-related ema…

No, you are right. Zotero currently offers no options to automatically make the folder structure more sensible.
-
Final steps would be: copy/paste your tweaked style from csledit.xul into a plain text editor (say, Notepad) and save it as a .csl file. If it's perfect, consider submitting it to the style repository (Rintze knows how). For local use, drag and dro…

I currently do most of these things with tags ('need to read', 'need to pick from library', 'need to reread', 'important'). A visual cue, however, would be nice. A generalized solution might be to add the ability to tie certain visual effects to ce…

A good start is to find yourself a few styles that are very similar to the target style and check out how they are coded. (Use clsedit.xul to inspect the CSL of currently loaded styles.)
-
Agreed. I gather this is currently because csledit.xul retrieves the styles from the db (and not from files) - but still it would be very handy if we could save a tweaked style to a csl file right from that window. This may be different in the Sync…

Just a general comment here: I think EndNote users having trouble exporting their data should also report these issues to Thomson/Reuters. Some of the most common issues seem to be due to shaky implementation of various export formats on EndNote'…

Isn't this CSL business? A CSL file for a German journal that prefers u.a. should duly generate u.a., etc. I don't see why that should be dependent on translations of the Zotero interface. Citation styles are a wholly different thing than the user'…

Thirded.

My worry is not the database, but citations in documents. I'm not sure what happens to them if I upgrade to a beta version.
-
There is no plugin for that currently. You can do one of the following things: (1) select the references in Zotero and drag them into the WordPress edit window. Under Preferences (Gear icon) > Export you can select the output format and whether …

Try the 'gears' button, 'advanced' tab - you can specify the location where Zotero stores its stuff there.

It's easy to give it a try since exporting from Zotero is a piece of cake, but I suspect that you'll long for Zotero soon enough. I know what I'm talking about; I switched from Endnote to Zotero some time ago. But here's what you need to do to see …

Well, I would appreciate a compiled version of that script (I'm on Windows XP). My naming convention for PDFs is Author YYYY Title.pdf Thanks for your time!
-
All of your points should be possible, and I agree that they would be nice features making the Word integration more mature.
-
Luc, your issue is a slightly different one as the notes you're digitizing all clearly belong to a certain item in the bibliography. References to pages etc. can be taken care of in the current note-taking system. Tags and related items also work wi…

Another vote for implementation of this feature. It would make Zotero a lot more usable.
-
Thanks for explaining!
-
Catherine, no developments on this, as far as I know. PDFs (e.g. from JSTOR) can only be downloaded if you or your institution actually has a subscription to the journal you are looking at.
-
I was afraid so... I've asked Sean to send me the Sync Alpha xpi (I deinstalled it) so that I can try to export the stuff.
-
Can anyone confirm this or is this a false alarm and did I just mix something up?
