You are right (of course) :-) 1. Boot camp makes it easy to install Windows and it creates a partition without erasing the disk. It makes space by clearing iCloud files that are on the cloud anyway. 2. While Microsoft does not admit that Windows i…

Thanks for the clarification. I am aware of boot camp, but I believe it requires reformatting the disk, and I would have to pay for a Windows licence. Might try it sometime though!

It's hard to say what's the cause when we cannot reproduce them Were you unable to reproduce the error in the files I sent you - those that correspond to failures in my test results? I sent them all by email in a ZIP file with the test results; an…

Thanks for the tips. Do I take it that you found no 'hard' errors in the logs, and that you think the errors are occurring randomly due to speed issues (noting that speed was not my main issue, though faster is always nicer)? It does seem erratic.…

Today I conducted two more tests. In test 9 I copied and pasted all of chapter 5 into a new document. I did the refresh and this PASSED. Debug ID D1679714153. In test 10, I selected the same text, but by taking a copy of the whole original docu…

This is useful, but not any old file extension is available. The file type "document" covers .doc, .docx, .txt, .ppt .... Is there any way to distinguish between them? I want to pick out the .doc or .docx extensions.

If the error is related to a specific reference (?) then this narrows it down to three pages.

I carried out a series of tests as you requested followed the procedure: 1. Opened the last version of the thesis (dated 201204, set to read-only) with macros enabled (but I did not run any macros) 2. Duplicated it and saved the file as “Zotero te…

I gave a detailed account of what I did and saw in my posting above (yesterday at 12:22 pm Zotero Forums time). I can't make it any more repeatable than that! I did not do anything else in Word or Zotero while this test was running. I am running on…

"There seem to be multiple types of errors occurring, but it is unclear whether they have the same source or not. We can only target one specific reproducible issue at a time ... I only get one error message: at the end of refresh. Can you see what…

1. Did the previous log tell you why there was a false error report? 2. I think refresh ran slower than usual when error logging was on. It took over an hour and it usually takes about 20 minutes without the debug log. Anyway, I would rather leav…

Thanks for the comprehensive replies. I have nothing more to add to my case, so we must agree to differ. Maybe other forum users would like to chip in? If I am the only one experiencing the problem, then I can understand why you don't want to make a…

I think I already addressed all your points, but here's a summary 1. The "reject all" preference could be turned on or off, so anyone wanting to be alerted to changes can turn it off. That would also be the default. It would always be on during auto…

Thanks for the reply and support. I don't have a Windows machine. However, the time take to refresh is not a big problem if I can leave it unattended. I usually run the refresh at the end of the day, so not so rare. I leave it running while have m…

A little update ... I starting afresh today. I found the document with updated citations but no Bibliography. I inserted one and got that message "An error has occurred. Do you want to see troubleshooting instructions?". I said no. Nothing happened …

I said l'd take a look at the 'hierarchical item types' discussions. I did and found the following of interest. It's quite a Zotero institution! (Started October 23, 2006) “Books and Book Sections: Avoiding Input of Duplicate Info” https://forum…

I do this sort of thing quite a lot. (This is from a fellow user, not Zotero staff) 1. Set up entries for each Book. 2. Create entries for each Section of that Book by copying the Book entry and changing the Type to Book Section (to make sure you …

I agree with @tucabib 's Feature Request. See my comments on http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/13117/entire-journals/

I support @mdfurney 's original feature request. Yes, a whole Journal is similar to a Book, and that's what I use now too. However ... When hierarchical items come (and pigs fly), I would like the hierarchy: --> Journal (name, publisher etc.) …

I'd like this too!

I just realised this thread is similar to my own feature request https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/86468/feature-request-link-book-sections-to-book/ I support the idea of hierarchical items in Zotero and I like @devan's idea for the user interfa…

l'll take a look at the 'hierarchical item types' discussions. I'll take a look at Zutilo too. Thanks. Worldcat is useful to me because it has a large selection of references, and an overview of availability in libraries but I am not shy of using…

P.S. I just read the read the issue in Github and the reason it is not done now, namely that focus shifts from the document to Zotero if progress is shown. Personally, I am fine with that. I presume you want leave focus on the document so the user c…

Thanks for creating an issue. I was not aware that it was a specifically MacOS problem, but I presume plenty of Zotero users use Macs, and there are other apps that have solved similar UI issues. I mostly use a 27" iMac for working on large document…

Yes, I can see that you are limited in the pop-up dialogue, which is one reason that I suggest making it a Zotero Document Preference (like choosing the citation type). The other reason is that any pop-up dialogue is inappropriate in a long-running …
