Thanks. I thought I'd done this before, but I guess not.

I've solved the problem. I rechecked Troubleshooting on the site on Data Issues. It described my problem as "users...find[ing] their libraries almost completely blank" and said that in almost every case the reason was that Zotero is looking for the …

When zotero starts it looks like it is newly installed. The only items under My Library are the Zotero Quick Start Guide, Duplicate Items, Unfiled Items, and Trash. It should display approximately 100 of my own entries. The Data Directory conta…

Thanks, Dan. I don't know how to be more specific. Normally zotero starts, then loads the library, i.e., all my entries in the database. This morning it did not. I quit and tried again. I gather from reading the troubleshooting advice on…

Followup to question about naming the file: It could be more descriptive. The current name doesn't suggest anything about function or use.
-
My question about whether how the file is named matters didn't get answered. Does it?

Thanks. Clicking the button didn't produce an error report. I'm using standalone zotero, and followed the instructions for firefox/standalone. As you say, it wouldn't work at all if it weren't able to access it. I'll assume it's OK till i…

OK, it's there. Question, though. I have a custom location specified. When I click on "show data directory" nothing happens. When I click on "choose" I can navigate to the directory. Do I have a problem? I know my data are getting stored there.…

Thanks, Adam. I wondered if it wasn't there. I don't see anything related to a translators directory. I see a data directory. Buttons to check database integrity, reset translators, reset styles and a place to specify a resolver. The only direc…

I'm using standalone zotero. I've looked for "settings"--in menus, at buttons, in preferences--and don't find it anywhere. Must be overlooking something. What? Where? Thanks

I aam having the same problem. Times New Roman is not the default font of any of the word processors/editors that I use. Likewise, items are coming out double-spaced within items. The immediately preceding response suggests there is a way to c…

Damn! Of course! Thanks.

With Mendely you can hide the right pael. I'm not gonna be moving to Mendeley, but it made me realize that feature would be handy on Zotero.

Thanks, Adam.

I'm not looking for additional shortcuts, just wondering whether anybody'd made a "cheat sheet" of the ones set up in preferences that I could refer to till I learn them. Sounding like I just need to go ahead and make one. Not difficult, but I …

Yep.

Thanks to both of you. I added the date added column to the records list and created a "recently added" saved search. The latter is what I was hoping for. Sincerely, Eric Weir

Just tried saving from the site and page with which I first experienced the problem. Again got the "an error occurred while saving this item" message. Not sure it's what were suggesting, but the error reported in Zotero preferences was: [Java…

I tried resetting the translators. After doing that and restarting Safari, I still have the problem.
-
Thanks, Adam. I checked that page before posting, but obviously not carefully enough. Yes, I have the problem with individual entries. I tried a few before posting.. The one with which I first experienced the problem is http://www.iep.utm.edu/expl…

Thanks, Adam. I guess there's not much bibliographic software developers can do as long as there's no standard format for incorporating bibliographic data in pdfs.

Safe if the 2.1 beta version of Zotero for Firefox is safe. I get the sense it is. What are the likely risks?
-
Thanks. I see on checking that zotero SA is compatible only with 2.1 beta versions of zotero for Firefox. I'm tempted to try the beta -- my database is small at this point, and not in very active use at the moment -- but am a little wary. …

Thanks. At least I know how to use it now. The fact that movement 's not shown had me fooled.

Messing around I discovered that reordering columns does work after all. It just works differently from what I'm used to with other applications. When I click and drag, the title doesn't follow. If I keep dragging and then click on the position I wa…

Yep. My initial reaction was, "But I don't wanna give it up!" But I like the Firefox default better. They musta changed it since I started using personas. Thanks

Thanks for the followup on this. Yes, it was a letter/report of NRC group to the US Department of Education that somehow got published by, or identified as published by, the National Academies Press.

I want to use Skim, the PDF reader and annotator, to open PDFs in my Zotero database. The instructions above are not working for me. FF doesn't ask me what I want to when downloading a PDF. It simply opens a window for saving the file. There…

Thanks, Dan. I moved my data folder before reading that I should only do that with Firefox closed. It seems not to have caused any problems. I hope so. But then my database is pretty simple at the moment. Only a few items.

It's 0-309-14579-1. However, since posting I managed to get the data for the item. I don't remember how at this point, except that it wasn't by using the ISBN. A lot of trial-and-error for me right now. Thanks, Eric Weir
