I am fading so will crash again. On the laptop I downloaded latest tarball and extracted the Zotero directory and moved it to /opt where I am stuck figuring out how to run the set_launcher_icon script. Error msg says zotero.desktop is not writable. …

Thanks for the reply. By back up I assume you don't mean do a backup of my system. Rather, begin my explanation again. I don't recall how I originally, meaning a couple years ago, since Zotero has changed in the 9 or so years I have been using it. I…

How? It does not show up among applications in the launcher. Is there a way with java to activate a file in the .zotero folder?

Thanks, poettli, Well, I tried to start it by entering in the terminal ./zotero It started fine. Starting from the launcher still fails. I right-clicked the Zotero entry in the Office section of the launcher and chose Edit. I found under Properti…

Thanks. I may create a new profile for Zotero work and use a profile manager. I will see how long the good times last now that it is working again since I am working against a deadline.

Does Chrome work better than Firefox with Zotero?

I installed the Zotero bookmarklet in the Konqueror browser after failing to be able to drag and drop it to Opera. But when I clicked it with that page http://iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1088/1748-9326/aa815f I got the following: The requested o…

Firefox 64 is latest. I passed on opportunity to "refresh" esp. because my settings generally work well. I uninstalled and reinstalled Zotero Connector The pink Z is gone, replaced by a grey sheet that says Save to Zotero with snapshot, but clicking…

I disabled all other extensions; still can't save; still have pink Z for most things; exceptions are the Guardian and LA Times (but can't save articles) Note I do have uBlock Origin, Privacy Badger but they are now disabled.

I wonder if I am running into conflict with some other addon or software. I have a pink Z now for Zotero and when I hover over it it says "zotero is online" and not "Save to Zotero (Institute of Physics)" I can right-click on the Z and choose to sav…

I had to reposition Zotero to see the open handle to open it. Thanks again. I'm in business now.

Thanks, dstillman, On the desktop I restored the extension from the Cite Pane and it works. On the laptop I can insert citations. But I do have other difficulties. My Zotero library on the laptop does not have sub collections. I can see them in …

No response. I just opened a fresh document, entered some text and clicked the insert cite button.

There is a neat feature to ReferenceMarks at least. I did not test it in Bookmarks. If you have changed your Zotero collections in a way that affects some of your paper citatons and you attempt to add a new citation, Zotero will prompt you for…

Workaround Found: 1. I think I have a workable solution to the PDF citation replacement problem at least for now. I can get them in and avoid duplication, especially across machines and OSes. I searched for an alternative to dragging and dro…

A PDF reference question: 1. The websites deletion followed by replacements cleaned out their storage folders and worked fine. The replacement entries work well. I think you meant the Trash collection in Zotero. I emptied it. But the PDF …

I have experimented with both ReferenceMarks and Bookmarks with two test files in OOo Writer 3.2.0 using the 3.0a7 Zotero OpenOffice Integration plugin under Win XP. I like the behavior of ReferenceMarks better. I won't go into details and my …

Thanks again. 1. Here's what I will do: I will make a list of the websites and PDFs so after deleting them I can create bibliographic entries over again for them. There are a little over a dozen. I will see what happens on the other machines/…

Thank you, adamsmith, for your comments. 1. What is the best way to handle erasure of the PDFs? Simply erase the folder that contains them? Or will that break some links somewhere and confuse Zotero? 2. I learned something about groups and …
