Did some further investigations: Word has been zombified when Zotero chrashed several times. This is what caused Word to not open before rebooting Windows. As of now I'm happily using my template again.

As of now the corrupted word-documents don't even open to investigate further - the joys of free and open source I guess - 3 days of hard work gone in seconds...
