Thanks for your reply! I couldn't tell what was going on given the ambiguous nature of the error message. I'll keep going and try some other URLs, and/or using Zotero Connector instead of zbib.org

@adamsmith Thank you, your response is again extremely helpful. I now understand the matching better. For some reason I was unaware of the Zotero version of the style editor. Thanks, I will use that. I just discovered two things: 1. The Visual Sty…

^edit but was abbreviating authors first names, so still would have had to edit anyway.

(arg. I really wish there was an "edit" option in these forums!) Meant to say: Journal of Neurophysiology was a close style that did appear on the search.

Thanks. We'll count this as resolved. I have a more CSL/Zotero specific question I'll post in a new thread.

Thanks @adamsmith that's helpful. I just keep noticing errors as I look over my document's bibliography that require going back and editing the style again. (I would have much preferred it if the search for my required style example had turned up …

^^ id in angle-brackets.

(it seems to cut out my use of the string "" . to bad there's no edit in this forum. )

@bwiernik WHAT official style? I thought I was clear that I was using my own custom style, and I'd already changed the before trying any of this. The question is about whether needs to be changed for every single little change one makes.

@dstillman Thanks for your answer. I don't understand, could you clarify? If change my custom CSL file that already has its own unique ID that I created previously, and delete the version of my custom style stored in Zotero and re-load the new versi…

....OK. Resolved. Issue was that the CSL file was somehow registered by CSL Editor website to a Zotero server, so my *local* changes the the file on my computer were being ignored in favor of whatever's on the Zotero server. Solution: Give the styl…

Bibliography line of CSL now reads thusly but is completely ignored after reload & refresh: still double space, no hanging indent:
-
Setting it to just the integer "1" in the CSL file also had no effect. Still double-spaced.

I even went into the .csl file and found the place were it says 'line-spacing="2"', changed the two to 1.15, updated the document style preferences, reselected the citation style in Zotero tab of the Google Doc.... nothing. Still double-spaced. Onl…

Also having this problem in Google Docs using the Zotero Connector plugin. Each time I refresh the bibliography, the font, line spacing, etc. reset from what I fixed it to be. Instructions seem to assume we're using Word or Libre Office. What abo…

That's why I phrased my question as "under what circumstances,..." because presumably some people found it to work. "Almost always work" though? Maybe there's a Zotero "Preferences" option, like "Actually work," that one needs to go in and enabl…

Ahhh. Ok. I'd been looking under ~/Library/Application\ Support/Mozilla, which is practically empty... Made the change, got what I wanted. Thanks.
