I don't know if it helps figure this out at all: But the first program to freeze is Firefox. Then a minute or so later word freezes.

Yes. It continues to happen in new documents.

I feel like a broken record here. But everytime I start a new document, the same freezing problem happens. Still. Again and again.

No... those don't seem to apply. I have not used migration assistant on this Mac and I am already using 10.6.8.

Why should it matter though -- the older documents in questions were documents for which Zotero used to work fine.

It's happening again. But this time I get the message: "The operation couldn't be completed. (OSStatus error -1708.)@[setTextRaw:field.m:393]' when calling method [ZoteroIntegrationField::setText] I am using the quick format bar.

Thanks. I uninstalled zotero and reinstalled it, and now it is working. Out of curiosity, where is the "cite" tab in zotero preferences if I am not using the standalone version?

I'll give it a try. I believe that my W2004 is up to date. I have avoided switching to a newer version of Word because I find the newer versions less intuitive, more cumbersome, and much, much larger.
