Thanks. That security setting is not visible to me - I'm assuming it's blocked by my institution. (And who knows what else they're doing that could be contributing.) I am going to see my IT people and will suggest this. I'll report back.

Thanks for the quick reply. I did try those steps. No luck. Uninstallation wasn't available via the Windows add/remove programs tool, perhaps because the install didn't make it far enough, but there was a file called helper.exe in the .../Zoter…

Okay, that got rid of the first names, but I still get all author last names, for example (Smith, Doe, Jones, 2013) instead of just (Smith, 2013) or (Smith et al, 2013).
