This issue is in an existing document. But; I created a new document and entered some citations. Works correctly but the field shadings look different. Checking the Zotero preferences for that document it has "bookmarks" instead of "reference"

Thanks for fast response! It is still there. Entering a cite, pressing space just extends the grey area that bounds the citation. Read somewhere that "bookmarks" in settings might help? Very frustrating, it has worked fine before and suddenly. The …
