okay, mystery solved! It does detect it as a newspaper article when I use the Clip tool - still doesn't fill in the headline, but I can easily copy that over from the text in the "Abstract" field. Thanks for your patience in helping me sort that o…

Sorry, that still didn't work. Debug ID D1055940105. I'm running Zotero 7.0.8, mac OS 14.3.1 on Firefox 131.03, if that's useful. (Also tried it on Brave browser with same results) Would it have anything to do with the fact that search results …

@AbeJellinek Thanks, but just tried it again and unfortunately the problem still persists for me. Debug ID: D1466078348

@AbeJellinek Thanks for the reply. Just tried a couple of them, with the same result. Report ID: 47347512

I also updated to 7, hoping this issue was corrected, but it STILL is not. :( I get the same "An error occurred saving with ProQuest. Attempting to save using Embedded Metadata instead." message, regardless of browser (Firefox or Chrome) There are …

I've used Zotero on a Macbook for years (currently a fairly outdated 2017 version) and it's always worked like a charm, so I doubt it has anything to do with the machine itself...

Carlos - if you right click on a PDF tab, there is a "Close Other Tabs" option. As a serial too-many-tabs offender myself, this came in very handy when I discovered it! :-)

Thanks to you both. I did update MacOS, which didn't fix it - but the delete & reinstall did. I didn't realize the reinstall would be so quick - I had assumed deleting the app would delete all the storage, and then have to rebuild that once rei…

Following up on this - I've tried to fix this issue using both Zutilo and Javascript, but so far, no luck. With Zutilo, I can't see that there's an option to copy a single field and overwrite that same field in other items - only "All Item Fields" …

@adamsmith Good point - the ones that seem to work correctly have a title listed (but note that's through a different library access) https://imgur.com/w3JIV51 It seems like the problem may be that the ProQuest Pittsburgh Post-Gazette database do…

Debug ID is D600866363 As for the screenshot, here it is with the "Details" panel open https://i.imgur.com/6PuOlYt.png Thanks!

Update: I was able to access Proquest Historical Newspapers through a public library, and the metadata pulled without any problems. So it seems to be specific to my access through my institutional library.

Thanks - unfortunately we only subscribe to a limited number of papers in PDF format (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Philadelphia Inquirer) - the problem happens with both of those papers. However, I did find that if the newspaper articles are in the …

@pbinkley finally coming back to your post about a year later! Apologies - I must have missed your reply last fall. This remains a problem for me, and for my student researchers. Yes, if the translator were at least able to recognize it as a newsp…

@dstillman Thanks for the reply. The "clip" function doesn't actually work with our institutional subscription - you get a login box that asks for a personal account. So I use the Print/Save function instead.

@dstillman Is there a process for requesting this be corrected?

I think newscomwc in the URL is for the "World collection" in their Library Editions https://www.proquest.com/products-services/Newspaperscom-Library-Edition.html Since this undoubtedly how a lot of university-affiliated users will access Newspaper…
