• dstillman, thank you! That was the issue! I was sure I had to give the permission to use Zotero, but I was supposed to supply the other email I used to open the document. Thanks for your help!

• Thanks for your comment. I have tried to remove all unnecessary extensions and disabled all other extensions but the zotero one, then opened a new google sheet and tried again to add a citation - and got the same behavior..
