This plug in looks cool, but I have no idea how to install it. The github site does not contain any instructions. There does not seem to be a Zotero installation file, which ends with the extension .xpi.

Yes. This is an absolute must. I am about to submit to a journal which requests DOIs, and is particularly fussy about these things. I think it would create a bad impression if DOIs were omitted for Books (which currently don't have a field in Zotero…

I saved the document under a new name, and the problem seems to have resolved itself. So this looks like some kind of corruption regarding how options were stored within the document. Sorry for delay in responding - I have been busy. Thanks for the …

Thanks. The Zotero APA7 style does not seem to be following these rules. For example, when referring to an individual who does not require disambiguating, initials are added, and no letters are added to the year when necessary. As mentioned, the APA…

P.P.S. Style was downloaded on 4th November. This seems to be the latest generic APA style provided within Zotero. Perhaps someone has published an APA7 style file which resolves these issues on another website?
-
P.S. I have downgraded to APA6, and suddenly the citations are properly formatted, so this seems to be an issue with the APA7 style file. Is there a new one on the horizon?

Hi. The legacy Java doesn't help with the LibreOffice document, which still fails to communicate with Zotero. However, I've switched to zotero standalone which I'm using with Mac Word. This is working better. The updating of references across t…

Many thanks for those useful comments. I'll check out that version of Java. I'm not quite sure what to do, because I love Zotero, but the word processor addins for MAC really don't work as they should. (NB may be a microsoft issue, and not a zo…

Okay, now the plugin for LibreOffice has crashed; Zotero experienced an error updating your document. An error occurred communicating with Zotero: com.sun.star.uno.RuntimeException: at com.sun.star.bridges.jni_uno.JNI_proxy.dispat…

I've switched to Libreoffice. So far, this is working a lot better.
-
Okay. Making sure the references are not stored inside the document seems to prevent the crashing. However, cursor still blinks for about 15 seconds after a reference is added, during which time it's impossible to add another.

Yes, I've experienced exactly the same issues, and started a post about it a few days ago. Now I use bookmarks as opposed to fields, which fixes the lag. NB I'm finding Office for Mac in general is massively buggy...

Thanks for the feedback. I've just had another crash using Word with Firefox. This time with a .doc document. Word does only intermittent back ups so each time I lose work. I'm probably going to try LibreOffice...

Hi Thanks for the comment, but I'm not sure what you mean by the "input method". I use Zotero from the toolbar. Any document with fields in Mac Word slows down the editing enormously. Bookmarks seem to work fine. I'm not sure if this is a …

Thanks. I've just converted to the files to .doc. There does actually appear to be a difference. I'm no longer getting a long typing lag when the document contains fields (though there is a very slight lag). The software also appears stable with no …

Okay. I've just noticed something. The Zotero set up panel says that the document must be saved in the .doc format. All documents I've been working from are in the .docx format. This could be the reason...

Okay. I spoke too soon. Word has crashed yet again, and disabled the Zotero add on. Should I try Zotero standalone? Perhaps try RTF scan? I'll definitely post this up under trouble shooting.

I've reinstalled Word, and it seems to be more stable when working with bookmarks. However, performance still slows noticeably when working with fields (despite an MS update today...)

There's another issue. Word repeatedly crashes and when it reopens the zotero plug in has been disabled. There seems to be serious issue with this version of Word. This happens even when I've copied and pasted, as above...

Thanks - lag is notably less when copying and pasting into a new file... Nick

Hi Zotero version is for Firefox 4.0.27.5 Mac Word version is 15.11.2 (Yes, it is word for Mac - it's installed via Office 365) It's a fairly average-sized file (probably about 20 pages, 30 refs) The slow down does not …

I don't follow the technical ins and outs of the above discussion, but I think integration with Freemind could be a real leap forward. In particular, while tags are a nice feature, they would be even better if one could arrange them hierarchically, …

I'm also experiencing the same difficulty, but I don't think this is Zotero's fault. Rather, as Sean points out, Zotero is deliberately inserting initials to differentiate two authors with the same surname, and this is likely to be due to the fact t…

Thanks for that. I think my basic error is forgetting to close down Firefox while doing the sync. Now that I'm careful to do so, things appear to be syncing well. Best wishes Nick
-
Although Zotero is a wonderful application I'm finding it very hard to sync collections. I use SyncToy, but for some reason, although it appears to sync the sqlite files where the Zotero data is stored - the "date modified" of the sqlite file is upd…

Hi Yes, that works. Can I somehow reformat the document it doesn't work in? Thanks
-
No, I'm afraid that doesn't work either.
-
Thanks. I can see how it works now. Nick P.S. In the advanced Search mode, the "Author" does not appear. Is this an oversight?
-
Hmmm. I've done this, but my references are still not in alphabetical order. Any other tips? Many thanks

Hello again. I've now discovered that I don't get this problem when I open a completely new document. Can anyone resolve this? Thanks
