Does anyone have a suggestion for me? I'm submitting my PhD this week and the cite unfortunately concerns one of my examiners. Any alternative to fixing it manually?

Indeed, I just tested it and it doesn't not happen if there are no other Birchley citation but it does if there is more than one. It might have to do with the fact that there are 5 authors for this paper. It doesn't do that for a 2 authors paper.

Splendid. It worked perfectly. I was also able to revert back to footnotes by changing the style to a footnote style after step 5. Thanks a lot for the quick response. I really appreciate it.

I just want to report that I experienced the same issue and that the workaround proposed here seems to have solved the issue for me. It is nonetheless strange that a function that I had been using for several years has stopped working.
