• Thank you, I left it for 30 mins and it's now updating. It has 200 odd references. I have signalled the problem of Zotero's slowness before on Mac but they just say it's something to do with my setup etc. Thanks for confirming it's not just me.

• Thanks for your reply. I have an M1 Mac Book Pro so no issues there. I have disabled automatic updates. Further problem: now my Table of Figures in Word is part corrupted with Zotero Citations mixed in. Have you come across that?
