I think there was a glitch - I had selected APA 7th under Preferences prior to posting this discussion. Seems that that selection didn't take. I re-selected APA 7th and now it is working. Thank you!

Adding my voice to allow Zotero to cite without parentheses (I use APA 7th), e.g., ...by following the work of X (2003), Y (1998), and Z (2022).
