Hmmm, right I've restarted my computer but still having the same issue. I haven't disabled security software as am on a work computer and don't think I have those rights. Is this a really important step? Thanks for your help!

Yes. I've even re-started Zotero and the items are listed both in the collections and in Unfiled Items. Is there a way to remove them from Unfiled Items once they've been filed into a collection? Edit: and thank you for the response!
