• I have done that and still no tool bar. I do have a small icon next to the 'window' and 'help' at the top of the screen than enables me to insert citations but no shortcut toolbar appears. I'm using a Mac. Michael

• Zotero works in word with just Firefox, yes. I have just uninstalled and reinstalled to get 4.0.23.1 and the Z has now appeared in the toolbar. However it still does not allow me to save a file to zotero (no icon in the toolbar).

• Zotero is 4.0.23 Firefox 33.1.1 I have tried firefox only and standalone open but neither seem to help. been through the link you have attached and still nothing different.
