Thanks for the suggestions. I think the issue is that I have been inserting citations a long-winded way. I have added a new footnote, than used Zotero to insert the citation. However, I do not have an option to insert as a footnote when the zoter…

Aha, that would make sense. I'm fairly new to Zotero, so I've not worked out how to do it any other way.

But I've tried various styles and they all leave brackets/parenthesis in the footnotes with the citation

I'm using: Chicago Manual of Style 17th Edition, Author-Date. I can't see those two styles that you mention.

In my footnotes all the citations appear with brackets likes this: (Baird, 2014) No matter which style I choose
