One more thing about WorldCat: their non-Latin characters aren't necessarily encoded the way their server "says" they are; same with WorldCat FirstSearch.

Sometimes, it almost seems as though I'm in the middle of a fantasy world. I worry aloud about something and lo a miracle happens. You folks are amazing!

What is the output style you are using? What exactly do you mean by "crashes"? I often export 1200 Zotero records to mods and have no problem. It can take some time to complete the export. During the export Zotero and FF are busy.

@adamsmith I agree with both of your points. I was trying to point out that trying to implement a perfect name search system would be a great deal of trouble for users and developers alike. What the world needs is an author registry. But, if the e…

This is an interesting problem. What of languages that use characters that when converted become two characters? (I'm using an iPad so cannot easily type those characters.) For example, the beta-like German symbol for doubled "s" or the conversion o…

The alphabetization of name particles isn't straightforward. Different journals / styles follow different conventions and can have different exceptions to the rules. This has been discussed several times over the years. See: http://forums.zotero.or…

The Zotero release version is up-to-date but adamsmith was refering to the version of the ISME style you are using as the basis of your work.

"What database?" This question requests the site from which you imported the citation (journal publisher's site, PubMed, WoS, Scopus, EBSCO, JSTOR, etc.) Some sites' metada include the issn while others do not. Still others provide oddly formatted…

Thank you. Please do further consider the bounty idea. I realize that ideas and how they are implemented will still need to be approved by the dev decision-makers.

That is good news. Given that there is already this function for the title field, am I wrong that this shouldn't be so time consuming? Is there a way for end users to specifically target (perhaps, substantial) donations to cover the cost of hasten…

The Wiley Online Library importer doesn't convert all upper case authors to mixed case. http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1468-5930.2011.00548.x/abstract I understand the philosophy (stated above) that Zotero should minimize the effort…

That is good to know. Thanks. The more I know about Zotero the more I like it.

As I expected, Zotero is able to gracefully handle this. I just wanted to be sure. Thank you.

@adamsmith. Yes! My sincere thank for all involved in getting SpringerLink to work. Or, should I be giving all my thanks to you?

It is one thing to use WoS or Scopus data in an analysis you conduct on your own machines. It is quite another thing to incorporate their added value (they are citation databases not merely bibliographic ones) into a system that can allow "their" ad…

@adamgolding (I saw your post above after i posted this message) After all of this talk about Zotero enhancements am i correct that you would be pleased if you could get articles from Zotero to be exported in the brief ISI format you presented above…

I am familiar with HistCite (now a Thompson product) and Publish or Perish for GoogleScholar. I am also familiar with how each accomplishes the citation analyses you are requesting for Zotero. Even the most basic request -- a citation count field --…

If I may nose in; the request to start a new thread should never be taken as being snippy. Starting a new thread can better help the person having the problem and others who later have a similar problem. It is a shorthand way to say, "I'll help with…

In the late 1990s it became a not uncommon practice to publish a conferences book of abstracts or the complete proceedings online or on a CD-ROM. A few years later I began seeing conference proceedings published on CD-ROM with a run-time version of …

If anyone wants to look a little further into this problem and how it can affect bibliographic databases; see pages 28-32 of my doctoral thesis on information-seeking behaviors of professionals and the information sources they use: www.safetylit.or…

While I agree that the policy is moronic and further I find it obnoxious; I have questioned the policymakers about their reasons for this mandate. What I learned was interesting. It is to combat what L.J. Morrisey has called "hollow references" -- …

Lets be clear. Tim, your comment about bubbly boxes makes me think that maybe you are seeing something different. The link below is to a 22-second video of using Zotero to download citations from the SafetyLit database. Please understand that this i…

All of us experience this. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, the box with the red border appears as the connection is made in response to clicking on the address bar icon. The time before the box is populated depends upon a user's Internet speed but …

Having a translator take care of the name order for CiNII records would be very handy. However, CiNII sometimes has the names in the correct order. While most records have the name order problem and will be fixed upon import, there will still need t…

I no longer have access to a computer with Word 2008. I am not speculating. This is a Mac Word 2008 issue that is unrelated to Zotero. This may occur with documents on computers that have never seen Zotero. Somehow the conversion to xml messes with…

Changing a document with any number of citation from .doc format to .docx format can damage the behind-the-scenes formatting that Zotero uses to track citations. Similarly, changing a Word documents' file format can trash Word's own table of content…

This new system seems to work in most cases if 1) the only purpose is to place items in alphabetical order; and 2) we are only interested in the first character of a word. This "translation" system results in words being spelled differently dependin…

@seveneleven What text editor are you using to write your code? It should have a setting that automatically uses the correct characters for quotation marks (double and single). If you are using a word processor to write or edit scripts / code you sh…

I hope this isn't too far off topic -- There are differences in the character case format of journal abbreviations depending upon the database that supplies the records. Sometimes each abbreviated word begins with an upper case character. Other tim…
