See the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors website: http://www.icmje.org/manuscript_1prepare.html The Uniform Requirements style for references is based largely on an American National Standards Institute style adapted by the NLM for…

Unless Paramount College has developed it's own EndNote style, using EndNote will not be helpful. I looked at the Vancouver (and similar) styles provided with (and online for) EndNote and none of the styles exactly match the PCNM requirements. I'm…

How did you enter the character? Is this character on your keyboard or did you enter with alt+? What is the default language setting on both computers? Are they the same? Possibly of less importance but are you _using_ the same font across computers…

I'm probably asking an unnecessary couple of questions: Does every repeated citation (in addition to Esterling) result in incrementing numbers? If not, could you possibly have duplicated Esterling items in your library? An answer to what @adamsmith…

Edit The export from RM has always performed poorly --even to EndNote. Fot items that are online it may be quicker to re-import them into Zotero. Earlier versions of RefMan didn't use unicode for decorated characters but it had its own limited syst…

If you use a Mac, try the app Typist. I think it is still free. I used it to improve my skills. Now must of my "typing" is done on a tablet. Nonetheless, I recommend Typist. Unlike other typing tutorials, it wasn't annoying at all.

@seneca_tunde This journal will accept manuscripts referenced using the APA style. The APA 6 style is included wiyh Zotero. You must be sure that all of the metadata is fully, accurately, and cocsistently entered into each Zotero item. Zotero will …

@parrenin You can "attach" documents and screen-shots by uploading them to any of the many free holding places available on the web and including the link within your forum post. (EDIT: pastebin, imageshack, dropbox, etc.) Regarding your main prob…

I guess that you are using Z standalone. Have you also installed the Safari connector?

Further background: "Lecture notes in computer science" is the serial title and is associated with an ISSN. However, at least some of the metadata formats that Springr provides include the confence name instead of the serial name. Some of these also…

Max wrote ...only the published version of a paper should be cited in another paper... I didn't intend to suggest that idea. There may be good reasons to cite something from a working paper that did not appear in the journal version.

Do you have printed examples or formatting style guide or only the ens electronic style? Does your university style conform to one of the many existing style standards: APA, MLA, CMoS? Even if there are slight differences you may be able to edit an…

To my dismay there is still no standard format for enterind author name variants in the ORCID record. I became very active in ORCID in the early days. I became far less interested when I was told that people of different cultures might become offend…

ArXiv documents, like other working papers, often undergo several changes. If this kind of document is published in a more formal presentation, it is likely to be somewhat diffent. It can be more or less complete. The journal peer review process is …

over the past year I have talked with many journal editors and thesis supervisors about the name disambiguation issue. (We were getting feedback about attitudes to changing less complete author names and deduplicating all versions to the most comple…

There is a lot of gray literature that must be entered using cut and paste. That said, I find the two extra clicks needed to format the names properly only a very minor inconvenience, if that. Given that the alternative is hand entry and that takes …

In the meantime, the best Palgrave metadata comes from (within the FF plugin) right clicking on the URL icon and choose embedded metadata. You will get something in the abstract field but it is not the article abstract. If you need the abstract you …

My shop does a lot of work involving CSV files. Sometimes we edit them directly. Before editing we always convert the commas to pipes to make the files more readable. We convert the pipes back before using the file. The extra effort is worth it. I …

Doing this by hand can be accomplished surprisingly quickly. -In the Word document, copy the title of the journal article or book. -Paste that title in the regular google search field. (It may be a good idea to place the title within quotes.) You do…

I had two copies of the connector. I'm not sure how that happened but the problem has been resolved. Removing one of the connectors removed one of the icons.

What version of FF are you using? Do you also have Zotero standalone? Do the items appear in your library on your local machine? (Items first go to your local machine and appear on your Zotero.org account only after a sync.) Please take a step back …

Could this record be duplicated in your Zotero library and each of the duplicate records was cited once?

@contromir you wrote: Or another record Frangopol as first name and Dan M as last name. If that reversed name order is in your database you can quickly correct it by right clicking within the author's first or last name and select "Swap first/last n…

Alsa, the right-click metadata choice inserts the same journal description text into the abstract field for every article. Thus, to get the abstracts I must tack care to completely delete the journal description when pasting the abstract text into t…

@dan I stand corrected about Zotero's treatment of UTF-8 encoding. Are you sure that this isn't an issue of MS Office getting confused ANSI 1250, ANSI 1252, and UTF-8? Older versions of MS Office were confused by material encoded one way when insert…

I will try to add something worthwhile to this discussion. I have seen music scored cited in several ways: different styles and according to the reference source type. As @adamsmith said, there are many ways to present a score. It may be by itself a…

This sounds like a mismatch in character encoding. Ideally, I think that you want everything to be in UTF-8 (Unicode). You can set Zotero to UTF-8 in preferences. There is also a setting in MS Word to make that the default. The way to accomplish tha…
