For me, this character problem also occurs when I'm logged in to the full WorldCat at my university. About a year ago, the OCLC folks said that this was "unavoidable" because of the way that records are added by member libraries. I demonstrated th…

Thank you. Every bit helps.

Do you realize that for your Zotero items with DOI strings that you can double click the Zotero item in the center window and quickly link to the article. This may also work when the item record includes a URL. Not an automatic process but a quick o…

What I was getting at (and using too many words) is that the comma issue seems style specific. U.S. journals expect the comma within but those English language journals that are published elsewhere seem to want references with the comma outside.
-
I think that it is even harder than it may seem. It appears that for British English commas are placed outside the end quote. For periods in enUS they are always inside but not so in other English conventions where, similar to exclamation marks or …

Is there not an absolute rule that commas and periods are always inside the closing quotation mark in American English? I believe that this may be less rigid with other flavors of English writing.

You are most certainly not exhibiting "dummy" behavior but it appears that the FF website was.

The most recent version of FireFox is 25.0.1. Your version is very old. There have been several generations of changes to the way FireFox interacts with add-ons and plug-ins. Also, there are serious security concerns with FF versions that old.

In the safety science world, most conference proceedings are treated as journals issued annually. The series have ISSNs. Proc Human Factors (Sage), Eye & Auto (Elsevier), Proc IRCOBI, etc.

I'm simply recommending that, when working on something as important as a doctoral thesis, that tried and true software be used. I have used Ulysses (the current and an earlier version). I like it better than Scrivener although Scrivener is clearly…

Please consider writing your doctoral thesis using LibreOffice. When writing and citing is complete and final (and you have removed the field codes) only then use Ulysses to refine and dress-up your manuscript.

My mistake. My eagerness for the sentence case conversion improvement led me to misread the purpose of this thread.

I seem to be not thinking properly tonight. I installed the patch, converted a record title from title case to sentence case. However, the word after the colon isn't in upper case. I'm using the Zotero processor gadget 1.0.126 Zotero 4.0.12 FireFo…

This is probably not good news. See: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-no-longer-works-mac-os-x-10-5 FireFox versions beyond 16 will not work in an OS 10.5 environment. Apple states that OS 10.5.x versions are a security risk.

Please do follow the link aurimus provided. The thread tells us much about the basis for making decisions about the rule making for the APA style and also about the APA standard-setters' treatment of those who question the standard-setting rationale…

Also, try highlighting everything and changing the font face to something like Times New Roman. It could be that the special characters are not available in the font that you have chosen.

How did you get the item metadata into Zotero? Did you directly import it using the URL icon? Did you download an RIS file? Did you hand enter? As I said above, some websites (WorldCat) do not provide characters encoded the in the way they say they…

edit Aurimus posted his second message while I was keying this post from my phone. This seems very similar to a problem I have had with some items I've downloaded from WorldCat. Please try a few more things: Verify that the titles appear correctl…

Does this DOI / CrossRef check only apply to JSTOR? Some publishers release their ePub ahead-of-print articles and send metadata to indexing services long before the DOIs are registered with CrossRef.
-
Did you include the question mark in your attempt to reach CrossRef? If so, try again without the space and the question mark. If you are unsuccessful, follow aurimus' advice and contact your worksite IT people.

Lex- What citation style specifies a seperate format for these documents? Can you not use one of Zotero's more generic item types for these "unpublished" documents?

I sometimes need to look for 'move to trash' in the right-click menu. The command isn't always in the same place. I guess context matters.

When there are 2 or more journals with the same name, at least one gets a suffix -- the original city of publication within curved brackets. This is the standard for disambiguation of journal names. IIRC this is the recommended disambiguation standa…

I see that the GitHub tickets related to this (432 and 293) are marked closed. Does this mean that conversion to sentence case with upper case characters after certain punctuation marks has already been incorporated into an upcoming Zotero version (…

@Pat @Dan @Everyone I sincerely apologize that the tone of my post led to offense. I never intended to be inappropriate or condescending. I deleted it. I guess that I was tone-deaf. I am horrified at the idea that something I wrote could be thought…

Question Journal is almost always abbreviated "J." in my experience. I've it as "Journ." when in articles from the first half of the 20th century. Are there disciplines with modern journals wherein referenced journal articles include the longer a…

This is my comment as a longtime Zotero user who is in no way involved with Zotero's management or programming. There are several things many users are unaware of that should be reinforced: Most site translator work is done by volunteers. Most br…

This is a problem on many levels. A few days ago I imported three articles by the same lead author from three consecutive issues of the same journal. In one, the name particle was after a comma in the first name field. In another it was included as …

As suggested above, I have 3 collections that I use frequently so I added numbers to each name. I have a difficult effort imagining the case for all collections' locations to be under user control and I'm curious about your need for this. (My job is…
