A few questions for your supervisor and a comment: How is one to tell if the first two authors are coequal? Must one read and interpret the (often absent) contributor-role paragraph in the article? Are you thinking only about papers with only two a…

Are you using a VPN for security? If you don't know the answer you probably aren't. If you are, GS is rejecting your requests because it "doesn't like" the VPN's IP range (or some similar issue). If I temporarily turn off my VPN then the bookmarklet…

Christof-- Please provide additional information. Include the url for the pdf that causes your system to hang. I use this feature 10s of times each day and I quickly either get the metadata or a notice that metadata isn't available.

Google Scholar will send you an email (as narrow an interval as daily) that includes links to all recently-identified articles, book chapters, reports, etc. that concern the search terms that you enter. Sign into your google account and go to Goog…

Google Scholar is a great index to articles but is a rather poor source of metadata and _not_ a source of abstracts. It is always better to follow the GS link to the publisher's website and there good metadata and (if not an editorial or letter) the…

Zotero works fine on my machines without admin rights. There must be additional restrictions on hlr's system.

I've been using the feed function since the early days of 5-beta. This seems to be publisher related. Some publishers seem to re-send items as though the items are new. I can't list those publishers now because I'm not at my desk. However, I comment…

For my own curiosity: Am I correct that sometimes the name particle characters are used but should not be dropped? I'm also thinking of institution names when named for a person.

@JakeBondo Many, many people use Zotero and Word on their Mac machines without any problem. Yes, Word for Mac is touchy but the problems you are encountering may be related to something else on your system. For many years I successfully used Zotero …

On the new, just like with Zotero 4, items are imported to the selected (open) collection within your library.

The behavior Bren777 described is likely more related to the blog source instead of Safari. I get similar behavior with BMJ Group blog posts when I use Chrome or Firefox. When I attempt to download a regular article from any BMJ Group journal things…

FWIW I've had similar questions about easy switching between language interfaces: English/Spanish and English/Vietnamese. I haven't had a good answer to those questions by community college students and university undergrads.

I see from a different post/thread that @adamsmith asked if you are using OVID to search Medline. That is the reason I asked you to tell the experts the URL of the webpage from which you view Medline articles. edit: by posting under different user…

You weren't asked to import a Medline article again but only to visit Medline and copy/paste an article's URL to the forum. It may be that the source of your access to Medline is placing all author names in a single field instead of placing each auth…

"...three years now without any problems..." Please see: https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/comment/279208#Comment_279208 https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/comment/275150#Comment_275150 There are many other comments in this forum from people…

Please be certain that the publisher wants the _manuscript_ to be submitted without DOIs. Even if the journal article is printed without DOIs, reviewers of the manuscript need a simple path to viewing the cited references.

Keeping your Zotero database file on Dropbox (or iCloud, etc.) is strongly discouraged. Keeping your attachments there is Okay. To keep Zotero coordinated on all your machines you should use Zotero's sync system (free for your data). edit: https://…

Word is counting fields (the stuff Zotero inserts to mark the citation) as though they are words to be counted. Although, hidded field markers shouldnt be counted as words; Microsoft has done this for years. I'm not sure why but it seems to have bee…

Your data is probably still there. To get help here you will need to give the experts additional details. See: https://www.zotero.org/support/reporting_problems

@zinvemar Solution to what? An item can be "deleted" from a collection doing so will not delete it from a library. An item can be deleated from a library -- but there is a safety net. Items deleated from a library are removed to the Zotero trash. T…

One more thing about PubMed metadata updates. Elsevier example: All Elsevier journal volumes are not now divided into issues. When articles are added to the PubMed database as ePub records the system nonetheless includes an ePub flag for a non exist…

The messages above demonstrate that, while this would be a very nice feature, the several ways to accomplish this are both imperfect and require some sort of negotiating with outside entities. While there are several ways to mostly implement this, a…

Remember Zotero offers free unlimited storage of your _data_ and only charges for file (PDFs, etc.) storage. There are several options if you wish to store your files elsewhere.

At the moment I'm not where I can test this with current versions of Zotero and Word. However, in the past I was able to insert a section break, set the style to bibliography, click to position the curson in the bib section, and insert the Zotero bi…

No, I wasn't literally suggesting a staging area for Zotero groups but using my case as an example. "Add not edit" group rights would be great for class projects.

It might be good to consider having three levels of group privileges. I find it helpful to have 3 levels of administrative rights in my online SafetyLit system. These allow control of each record as it moves through the administrative/ editing proce…

When this happens there is at least one of several possible reasons for Zotero adding author initials to disambiguate the name. The most common is for the author's name to be entered at least two (perhaps slightly) different ways. Is it possible t…

I may be misunderstanding or we may be talking across ideas. If I directly connect from home I have no problem with the resolver and obtaining full text. I don't normally use a VPN from home to connect. When I connect from home but through my VPN, …

When I make a remote connection from home to my university library system by entering my password I can access full-text articles of subscribed journals. However, when I'm in an environment such as a cafe or a waiting room, where I use my VPN for ad…
