@aborel I am interested in what you are trying to achieve but I still don't think I grasp what it is. I have been working as an indexer of journal articles for more than 30 years and as an indexer of music scores for 20 years before that. My doctora…

The issue is with the citation styles as much as with Zotero. What citation style are you using (APA, Chicago, MLA, etc.)? Does the style specify a format for referencing a live performance? Scripts and reviews can be easily handled. The Extra- ty…

What operating system (Windows / Mac / other)? Is this your personal computer or a computer owned and maintained by an institution? What antivirus or malware prevention software are you using, if any? Describe in more detail what you mean by "transf…

Please wait for the advice of others before taking any action. I don't want my suggestions to be taken as recommendations. You don't want to make an unfortunate situation worse than it currently is.

There are automated backups to your Zotero library. How you use them will be a compromise. This depends upon how many items you have added to your library after you began making changes to your tags; how long it has been since the changes (consideri…

My only intended point is that automation of duplicate detection is not simple. Publishers don't always behave as expected.

Ideally, DOIs are unique identifiers. However, (especially with ahead-of-print articles), not always. Here are 4 of a recent 20 examples. There is little that Zotero can do about this. (Okay, the F1000 example may not be the best.) 10.1177/0003134…

Are you viewing the problem PDF within Zotero or with other software? Where did you download the PDF? Is this a PDF that you created? Is this a problem with all PDFs or only one (or a few)? What Zotero version? What operating system - Mac / Windows …

It has been said here and extensively discussed on other threads in this forum that there are plans to provide significant improvements to the Zotero web presence. No one has questioned that you and other people with security concerns may not be abl…

@dstillman Now, I guess that I'm the one being pedantic. You said, "THE (Zotero) desktop app..." and @ProudChamp rephrased what you said--misquoting you. S/he said that several named PWAs have near feature parity with the Zotero desktop and I (perha…

You are being pedantic about the article "a" vs. "the". The Zotero desktop application currently is more powerful than the current web option. The current Zotero desktop application is much more powerful and flexible than the web versions of each…

I'll try one more time because you are clearly so extremely frustrated that you aren't thinking clearly. As adomasven said: You have to follow the Troubleshooting Errors in Word Processor Documents steps. Do this systematically and you will absolut…

Many times I find conference presentations when included in journals all have the same DOI. The abstracts are listed separately and are provided to databases as different items. However, the items do not have different DOIs. This is unfortunate.

Please calm down and recognize that the lead developer of Zotero and a senior staffer are trying to help. The forum has rules about being polite. Trust and respect their advice. They care about the user experience and try to help. No, you need not…

dstillman is Dan Stillman, the lead developer of Zotero and the most supportive developer of any software development project ever. And, "Adam" is not really Adam. Under his username he is one of the more active volunteers here who offer technical s…

What operating system are you using? Where did you obtain the file? Some OS settings allow the file extension to be hidden (you see file.ris but the real file name is file.ris.txt). The file may not be a properly formatted RIS file. Zotero is rath…

@adamsmith You are correct that I was not requesting ISSN search for Zotero. That said, is it not possible to accomplish something similar using advanced search and publication / journal name? (I haven't tried to do it.)
-
It is _very_ bad practice to directly access and edit Zotero database files outside of Zotero. Permanent damage is likely to occur.
-
Please explain further: "if people want a full volume". Zotero has an ISSN field. It is included in several export formats. This ISSN export is essential for my own (probably unique) purposes -- a journal name authority. It might help if you descr…

I understood that you were required to alter the standard AMA style. What adamsmith says is correct. Please confirm with your supervisor what is required (Standard AMA 11 or a modified version of AMA style).

See: https://www.zotero.org/support/dev/citation_styles/style_editing_step-by-step This may look complicated but it is quite straightforward when you use text-editing software NOT word processor software Pay attention to the instructions about cha…

I haven't used MS Word in years but, when I did, there was most definitely the capacity to differently control first page footnotes and subsequent page footnotes. I'm sure that option wouldn't be removed. Then the control was placed similarly to the…

I hope you are asking about Zotero and not some other similar software. Much more information and details is needed for someone to help you. See: https://www.zotero.org/support/reporting_problems

Perhaps, in a perfect world the software we use could always be adapted to match the user interface each individual user wants. We don't live in that world. There are things about the Zotero UI that I'd like to change. I've made requests / suggest…

This turned out to be a computer hardware problem on two Mac Minis(!) The problem devolved into frequent crashed tabs in Firefox. Then into Firefox and Zotero crashes. Finally, into Kernel panic crashes with neither Firefox or Zotero open. The crash…

Thank you.

My question was more along the line of, "Does Zotero at the time of download recognize the OS and computer technical aspects and send a version specific to the requesting machine's needs?" Thanks

Thank you for fixing this. I appreciate your attention to my request. Oops I spoke too soon. If the first letyter is an "I" after a quote the upper case is retained but if is any other letter the first word still begins with a lower case letter.

@sinclair01 Reread my [[edited]] comment. Zotero has a dedicated notes field. https://www.zotero.org/support/notes
