Looks like I can't this to work in Zotero 2.1 (multilingual branch).
I tried: 1) Go to http://pubget.com/ 2) Click on the search engine icon in Firefox and select "Add Pubget Search" 3) Click on the locate menu in Zotero and select Manage Lookup Engines 4) Nothing about Pubget shows in the menu
This might be multilingual-specific, but if it isn't working, the folks at Pubget who coded the extensible lookup feature might be a little disappointed.
Is there a page somewhere describing what a site should do to create a Zotero-compatible lookup engine? I feel like there is one, but I can't find it on zotero.org.
@ajlyon, PubGet was missing from the engines.json file used to configure the default install. I've updated the file, but it may not take effect on an existing installation.
I was puzzled over how to add engines as well, but I think I've sussed out the steps. (1) Visit the top of the PubGet site; (2) In Firefox, click on the icon next to the search box, and select "Manage Search Engines"; (3) Add PubGet; (4) In Zotero, open the locate menu; (5) Select "Manage Locate Engines"; (6) PubGet doesn't show up initially, but clicking on "Restore Defaults" brings it up in the list; (7) Double-clicking the PubGet entry adds the engine to the list of menu options.
Unfortunately, it looks like there hasn't been much up-take on this feature, even though it would be useful for many article databases. Perhaps Mendeley could be convinced to add support for it.
What and where is this "Search Engine Icon" that everyone keeps writing about in this thread? If your talking about the search engine text box in the upper right hand corner of Firefox v7.0.1, then when I click on any aspect of that box including its icons there is no option labeled "add" in any menu that I can find. The same is true for the location bar where you type in URL's for websites.
Can someone please add some pictures or a tutorial on how exactly to get Zotero to have EBSCO as one of its search engines?
The Search Engine Icon is the icon in the FF search bar, when you click on it it lists all installed searches (by default I think that's google, amazon, ebay, wikipedia and one or two others). The "add" option only shows up for compatible sites - if you go to http://pubget.com/ it will come up, on most other sites it won't.
As discussed above, very view sites offer opensearch compatibility, EBSCO not among them, so you can't have EBSCO as one of Zotero's search Engines.

Are there more available search engines than Library, CrossRef, Google Scholar, and Pubget? Where can I find them?
Thanks,
Sam
