Easy way to import library items into Group Library

I've created a group library to share my citations with viewers of my blog, and I'm finding there seems to be no simple way to import citations from my personal library across. This would be really helpful!
  • you can just drag & drop them over - both individually and in large batches.
  • It seems that we cannot drag over collections, only individual references. Any way around this?
  • Not really, no. Select all items in a collection and drag them over. Moving collections is planned.
  • As I can upload my library to share with others?
  • you can make your library public in the privacy settings on the webpage. For all others - dragging collections has been implemented in the trunk and is possible in the 3.0 beta version to be released shortly.g
  • I just did large batch drag for a dozen folders to a group library - it was a breeze.
  • Hi

I just tried dragging tems from my personal library into a group library and it said 'the URL is not valid and cannot be loaded'. What can I do differently? This happens with all items I try and drag even where they do not have a URL in the info.
  • @harriet - it sounds like you're trying to do this in the online version of your library on zotero.org, where none of the works. All the above applies to working in the client - i.e. the add-on for Firefox or Zotero Standalone
  • OK, thanks. I created a new data directory on my hard drive and have restarted zotero before trying to drag but the same problem recurs.
  • Could you describe exactly what you're doing? If need be you can upload a screenshot or two to imageshack.us or a comparable site to demonstrate.

It just seems highly unlikely that you would get this particular error message in the Zotero client rather than in your web browser, since Zotero won't try to load URLs in the first place.

  • yes, as I suspect - you're trying to interact with the online library.
If you're doing anything for which you need zotero.org to be open you're doing something wrong.
    Look through this:
    http://www.zotero.org/support/groups
    and in particular this:
    http://www.zotero.org/support/groups#interact_with_groups_through_the_zotero_client

In other words - you first need to join the group, then sync, then the group will show up in your Zotero client, then you can drag&drop between My Library and the Group Library in your Zotero client.
    Hope that clarifies things.
  • Thanks very much. Sorted.
