Cambridge Journals Online: Continued problems

I'm still having problems getting PDFs off Cambridge Journals. When I use the icon from the URL bar, the items are added, with an attachment showing. But when you go to the attachment and try to view it - which should be the pdf file of the article - what you get is is a pop up box asking you to open the download php with a text edit program. When you open it, you get a document full of code of some sort.

I have been resorting to opening individual articles in forefox, which open in what seems to be a pdf viewer embedded in the cambridge website; then I get my wonderful mac to open the pdf in Preview, from where I save it to a folder and then import it to Z., and then do the fetch metadata thing..... very long and cumbersome process.

Can we get this fixed please?

Review of International Studies Volume 35, supplement 1 (S1)
  • yeah - this is really a bummer - as opposed to other publishers with similar weird pdf displays like Sage, Cambridge doesn't provide an option to view the pdf full-page with the plugin (in those cases it's possible to quickly get the pdf using "attach snapshot of current page" - not for Cambridge, though).
  • Please go to http://github.com/ajlyon/translators/raw/master/Cambridge Journals Online.js and save the file to the translators directory of your Zotero data directory (http://www.zotero.org/support/zotero_data).

It should start saving PDFs (and working on search results and tables of contents) again. If this works for you, please post here so that I can submit this change to be pushed to all users.
  • awesome - two things, both apply to
    DOI: 10.1017/S0003055411000141
    http://journals.cambridge.org/action/displayAbstract?fromPage=online&aid=8278955&fulltextType=RA&fileId=S0003055411000141

    1. I get two snapshots labeled PDF - one is just the pdf, the other one is a snapshot with the pdf embedded - seems like overkill?

    2. I get authors in all caps.

But yeah, definitely push this, this is a huge help.
  • Both should be fixed now. Try installing again.

I'm sorry to say, while 2.) is fixed, this now doesn't save a pdf attachment at all - same URL above.

So to be clear - the first try gave me 3 attachments - html snapshot, pdf, and html snapshot of embedded pdf - this one only gives me 1 attachment - html snapshot.
  • Should be fixed now. The were actually syntax errors in that version, so you were falling back on DOI. I was in a bit of a hurry and didn't test my changes before foisting them upon you.
  • not really fixed, sorry.
I still get authors in all caps and now it's attaching a snapshot with pdf embedded rather than a pdf file. That's still better than no full text attachment at all, but since it seems like you were able to get it to just attach the pdf that would be much preferable.
  • Are you sure you have the latest version of the translator?
  • I thought I was sure, but just downloaded the most recent one with abstracts and everything's great now - thanks.
