Renew access to library

Hi,

My computer went dead a week ago. I bought another one (going from XP to Win7) and tried to renew access to my Zotero library. For some reason, I was asked to renew my registration and after registering I accessed to my surprise a new (and empty) library. How can I get to my former library?

Thx

For some reason, I was asked to renew my registration
    What does that mean?
  • I tried to gain access using my usual username and password. The password was deemed not valid, so I had to change it. I then registered and found myself in front of an empty library. You have my mail address. Is my library still there, if yes, how can I get to it?

What do you mean by "registered"? For a new Zotero account? Why would you do that?

The account you're posting from has no data on the server.
  • Indeed, the new registration resulted in a new (and empty) account. My original Zotero account arrived on April 23, 2010, 5:02 p.m. Based on this, could you see if my original account still exists and advise how can I get to it?

Different accounts have nothing to do with one another. If you created a new account (and I still don't understand why you thought you needed to do that), it wouldn't have any of your old data.

I don't know what your old account was, but all you need to do is log out of this account and log back in to your old one to view your data on the website. Then set Zotero to sync with your old account in the Sync pane of the Zotero preferences.
  • @stefan: I'm curious what you mean by "access" -- are you viewing your library only in the Zotero panel, or via the zotero.org website, or both? (What Dan says about entering your old ID and password and syncing is correct, of course, that's all you need to do; I'm just curious where things became unclear for you.)
  • I'm a little confused also because the account you use to login to the forum is your old account - it dates back to April 23, 2010. If it's ineed empty, are you sure you ever synced to that account?
  • I followed Dan's instructions, but got again to the new empty library. If you have my old account details, please:
--Look and tell me if my old library is still there
-- Try to instruct me again, this time in step by step detail.
  • again, the account you're posting from was created April 23, 2010. If that's when you opened your old account, you're posting from said account. If you have another account, Dan would have to know the user name to be able to check it.
Again, though, are you sure that you ever synced to your account?
  • The user name was the same. The e-mail address was the same.
I first synced now when following Dan's instructions. Didn't sync then.

Syncing is how your data gets on the Zotero server. Otherwise it's just stored on your machine. If you didn't sync and the data on your computer was lost and you don't have a backup then your data is gone.
