"Could not Save Item" in CSA Illumina

Hi, I get the error message "could not save item" when I'm using CSA Illumina to access databases (in this case, the MLA International Bibliography).

Help?
  • My colleague is having the same "could not save item" error message with CSA Illumina, with ERIC. I, however, do not have that problem, for some reason. We both are running Zotero 1.0.2 and Firefox 2.0.0.11 on PC's. I am at a loss as to why I can add records and she cannot. Although - I am working on a PC and she's on a Mac running Windows. Could that have anything to do with it?
A fix would be really good, but even a workaround for downloading or saving the records some other way and re-importing them would be helpful too.
  • Please provide a URL that isn't saving.

That's a list of search results that will save on my computer (PC) but not on my colleague's computer (Mac running Windows). The problem exists for any individual items or lists of items in the ERIC database offered through CSA.
  • How frustrating! Now MY computer, not just my colleague's, is producing a "Cannot Save Item" error message within the ERIC database (provider: CSA). This worked without a hitch just a few days ago. URL of an item that won't save:

    http://www-mi7.csa.com/ids70/view_record.php?id=2&recnum=0&log=from_res&SID=884a3f3fd533d1f657badb5ed22ed48c&mark_id=search:2:0,0,10

I've been very enthused about Zotero, but it does not appear very reliable right now.
  • Oh - it could be the upgrade to Zotero 1.0.3 that has changed something on my computer. But why would upgrading make things worse? Frustration.
  • Me again. I am running into complete inconsistency when it comes to Zotero's ability to download citations from CSA and now also Ovid databases (ERIC on CSA and PsycInfo on Ovid). I'll get the folder or the item icon, but then when I click it, this little blank rectangle comes up in the lower right part of my screen. If I have a folder icon, I then get the usual list of items to check off. I check them off and go to save them, but then I get that "Cannot Save Item" error message. There is never a known issue. If I have an individual icon, I click the icon and the "Cannot Save Item" message appears. Or, sometimes it doesn't, and the citation is saved to Zotero. For the life of me I can't tell any difference between the times it does and does not save. I'm in the same database, the same browser, the same session, seconds apart...and one item saves while the other does not.
I really like Zotero...when it works...but - if it can't work consistently with our bread-and-butter databases, I can't really recommend it to others at my institution.
Am I (and possibly johnlurz) the only people with this problem? And if so, what are we doing wrong that everyone else seems to be doing right?
  • Looks like the Ovid issue was marked "fixed"on the ticket but I'm still having trouble getting items into Zotero, even after updating my translators.

http://ovidsp.tx.ovid.com/spb/ovidweb.cgi is the URL I'm working with.

  • Looks like the Ovid issue was marked "fixed"on the ticket but I'm still having trouble getting items into Zotero, even after updating my translators.
The updated translators hadn't been made available to Zotero clients yet. Try updating now, and let us know if you're still having trouble.
  • I'm ok at the moment but my poor colleague - the education librarian - had it working for a while after updating her translator, but today it stopped working again, after she updated her Firefox 2.0.0.12, which may or may not have had anything to do with it. I updated my Firefox, too, yet ERIC continues to work fine for me.

Is this kind of inconsistency typical of EZProxy problems, or do you suspect something different?
  • From my colleague, in response to my asking her for a URL for the ERIC problem and whether Psycinfo (Ovid SP) is working:

Neither is working. This is the URL for the Psych that did not work:

    http://ovidsp.tx.ovid.com/spb/ovidweb.cgi

Here’s the URL for bad ERIC:

    http://www-mi3.csa.com/ids70/results.php?SID=06b7c85c669f4914e0430b863023db8b&id=2
  • CSA Illumina doesn't work in Zotero for me, either. Here's the URL:

    http://www-ca6.csa.com/ids70/view_record.php?id=2&recnum=1&log=from_res&SID=2c6fd02ca5b7edd3920541c8539464bd&mark_id=search%3A2%3A12%2C0%2C10

I doubt that URL will work for you, but it isn't hard to replicate. I just picked a citation
at random out of Sociological Abstracts (a CSA Illumina product), and tried Zotero. It results in "can't save item" every time.
  • I am also getting the "can't save item" in CSA. It happens for every record in every database on the illumina platform. The last URL I tried was in the biological sciences database: http://www-ca3.csa.com/ids70/view_record.php?id=2&recnum=999&log=from_res&SID=2744b2ce2c0c3f27cdeea925d6ac0743&mark_id=search%3A2%3A49%2C990%2C1000
