Translators info doesn't appear on new version

Hello:

I'm wondering that the translation info of the APA reference is not appearing on the new version of Zotero.
  • this worked before? Could you give an example of a citation as is and as should be?
  • Hello adamsmith:

Before I upgraded to the standalone version of Zotero (under GNU/Linux Ubuntu), from version 2.0.9 (using Firefox version 3.6.15) to 2.1.1 (using Firefox version 3.6.16), I had a difference on references and citations. I'll put over here the outputs problem from the Zotero Reference Test pane (chrome://zotero/content/tools/csledit.xul).

I also must put here the editions that I made to the style to adapt it to a Spanish use. I just implemented some recommendations that you did on other post. I'll try that on other post.

Now the problems are as the following explanations.

For example, under 2.0.9 I had the reference:

Tolstói, L. (2010). El Reino de Dios está en vosotros. (Joaquín Fernández-Valdéz Roig-Gironella, Trad.)[Traducción del ruso del original en Alemania de 1894, aunque sus primeros intentos fueron censurados en Rusia y datan entre 1890-1893]. Barcelona - España: Editorial Kairós.

    Under 2.1.1 I'm having:

Tolstói, L. (2010). El Reino de Dios está en vosotros. [Traducción del ruso del original en Alemania de 1894, aunque sus primeros intentos fueron censurados en Rusia y datan entre 1890-1893]. Barcelona - España: Editorial Kairós.

So the differece between the 2 references is that "(Joaquín Fernández-Valdéz Roig-Gironella, Trad.)" is not appearing on the newer version of Zotero. By the way I should report here that before "(Joaquín Fernández-Valdéz Roig-Gironella, Trad.)" there's a need of a space, " ", to separate the translators information from the series field.

Another example with a similar point. On the older version I have:

Negri, A. (2007). Goodbye Mr. Socialism. La crisis de la izquierda y los nuevos movimientos revolucionarios ["Adiós socialismo. La crisis de la izquierda y los nuevos movimientos revolucionarios"]. (Rosa Rius Gatell y Carme Castells Auleda, Trads.)[Traducción del original en 2006]. Barcelona - España: Paidós.

    On the newer I have:

Negri, A. (2007). Goodbye Mr. Socialism. La crisis de la izquierda y los nuevos movimientos revolucionarios [“Adiós socialismo. La crisis de la izquierda y los nuevos movimientos revolucionarios”]. [Traducción del original en 2006]. Barcelona - España: Paidós.

There are other problems, on the newer version (standalone), as the translation thing.

For example the following reference appeared on the older version:

Martín-Baró, I. (1998). Del opio religioso a la fe libertadora. En Amalio Blanco (Ed.), Psicología de la liberación, [El editor y compilador señala que éste capítulo se toma del libro Psicología política latinoamericana, Maritza Montero (coord.), 1987] (pp. 245-280). Madrid – España: Editorial Trotta.

On the newer version this is the reference:

Martín-Baró, I. (1998). Del opio religioso a la fe libertadora. En Amalio Blanco (Eds.), Psicología de la liberación, [El editor y compilador señala que éste capítulo se toma del libro Psicología política latinoamericana, Maritza Montero (coord.), 1987] (pp 245-280). Madrid – España: Editorial Trotta.

The problem here is the plural "(Eds.)". It should be singular as the older version: "(Ed.)".

Another example related with this is the following. On the older version I had:

De Sousa Santos, B. (2004). Una izquierda con futuro. En Cesar A. Rodríguez Garavito, P. S. Barrett, y D. Chávez (Eds.), La nueva izquierda (pp. 435-457). s.l.: Editorial Norma.

    On the newer version:

De Sousa Santos, B. (2004). Una izquierda con futuro. En Cesar A. Rodríguez Garavito (Eds.), La nueva izquierda en América Latina. Sus orígenes y trayectoria futura (pp 435-457). América Latina: Editorial Norma.

The difference here is that on the older version I had "Cesar A. Rodríguez Garavito, P. S. Barrett, y D. Chávez (Eds.)". Now I'm just having "En Cesar A. Rodríguez Garavito (Eds.)".

As you note there's the plural problem again. On the newer version there's an output for just one editor (even when there are more than 1 editor) and the output stays as plural when should be singular.

There are also problems with the citation when there is no date. For example, on the old version I had the following citation:

    (Bakunin, s.f.)

    For the following reference:

Bakunin, M. (s.f.). Dios y el Estado. [No se especifica la naturaleza de la traducción. El original se publicó en 1882]. República Dominicana: Ediciones Crónica.

Now I'm having the following citation:

    (Bakunin, s d)

    For the same reference:

Bakunin, M. (s.f.). Dios y el Estado. [No se especifica la naturaleza de la traducción. El original se publicó en 1882]. República Dominicana: Ediciones Crónica.

On the citation it should be "s.f.", as the older version, wich means on Spanish "sin fecha".
  • ok, I'll have a look.

    Sorry adamsmith:

I'm trying to find a way to post the XML code of the edited Style. Where and how did you posted your editions? Is just to post, also, my editions.

On that way I would show you my edition to the style, adapting the APA style to a Spanish context. Maybe you can help me better if I post the XML code.

  • Hello:

I recently installed a newer version of Zotero (2.1.2, Standalone) and almost all what is reported remains the same.

Although, the Bakunin citation is solved while instead of leaving the date empty I just write a "s.f." on the field. This is now better because before even when I tried to do the same the citation had an "s.f" output without the last period as should be: "s.f.". If I leave the field of the date empty the citation appear as follows (something little different than before):

    (Bakunin, s.d.)

Where editing the field with "s.f." appears correctly:

    (Bakunin, s.f.)

The apparition of other editors is almost solved. One of the example is appearing as the following reference:

De Sousa Santos, B. (2004). Una izquierda con futuro. En Cesar A. Rodríguez Garavito, Patrick S. Barrett, , y , Daniel Chávez (Eds.), La nueva izquierda en América Latina. Sus orígenes y trayectoria futura (pp 435-457). América Latina: Editorial Norma.

The problem here is the apparition of a ", , y " When it should be ", y " as the following:

De Sousa Santos, B. (2004). Una izquierda con futuro. En Cesar A. Rodríguez Garavito, Patrick S. Barrett, y Daniel Chávez (Eds.), La nueva izquierda en América Latina. Sus orígenes y trayectoria futura (pp 435-457). América Latina: Editorial Norma.

The other reported problems remains the same, as the plural-singular (Eds.-Ed.), and the translator info (and the space between translator field and the series field).

I need to report other problem that remains on this new version, that I didn't discovered before for the above report. For example, I'm having as a reference:

    Kerlinger, F. N., y Lee, H. B. (2002). Investigación del comportamiento. [Traducción al español del original en 1999] (4th ed.). México: McGraw-Hill.

The edition field must output "(4ta Ed.)" and not "(4th ed.)". The output is in English and not in Spanish, as should be. Another example:

Martín-Baró, I. (1985). Acción e ideología. Psicología social desde Centroamérica (2nd ed.). San Salvador: UCA Editores.

The edition output must be "(2da ed.)" and not "(2nd ed.)".

I really appreciate the effort of the Zotero team following this issues. We'll keep in touch.
  • OK, a lot of these issues are related to Zotero bugs that are currently being worked on - I'll keep you updated as things move along, that makes more sense than going through this one by one now.
  • Thanks, adamsmith. I'll wait for the bug fixing.
  • this should all be fixed now - let us know if there are remaining issues.
