Problem using Zotero with Amezon "Could Not Save Item An error occured while saving this item"

Report ID : 1652664640
Software Environment :
XP+Zotero2.0.9+FF3.6.13("Accept third-party cookies" enabled, "Translator" up to date, )
Steps to reproduce :
- Open URL: http://www.amazon.com
- Search "Books" with "Blindness and Insight"
- Click link "Blindness and Insight: Essays in the Rhetoric of Contemporary Criticism"
- Click the book icon inside address bar "Save to Zotero(Amezon.com)"
- Alert message at bottom right of screen "Could Not Save Item An error occured while saving this item. Check Known Translator Issues for more information."
  • Just provide a URL for Amazon, which has static URLs.
  • Hello,

The same problem here, for a few days now. For example, this URL:
    http://www.amazon.com/Particles-Surfaces-Detection-Adhesion-Removal/dp/0306430304
clicking on the book icon gives the "could not save item" message.
Running zotero 2.0.9 on ff. 3.6.13, win xp sp3

    Regards,

    Fernando
  • works for me -
have you tried the other steps here, esp. # 7 and 8
    http://www.zotero.org/support/troubleshooting_translator_issues
  • No luck, disabled all extensions and plugins, restarted ff and windows and nothing new. Regarding #8, I see the icon and hovering over it shows "Store in zotero(amazon.com)"

    What else to do?

    Fernando
  • Everything else on that page, including a Report ID if you get to the end. Amazon pretty much always works.
  • From that page ...

    1. zotero 2.0.9
    2 ff 3.6.13
    3 clicked Update now
4 hovering over book icon shows "Store in zotero(amazon.com)"
5 No amazon related issue known
6 "Accept third party cookies" enables, even when I have ff 3.6
7 disabled all extensions and plugins except zotero, restarted
8 I see the icon, also there is a long time since I saw an unresponsive script warning last time
9 closed ff, deleted translators directory, reopened ff, clicked update now translators...

Nothing helped; also, I can store items from other sites normally, never had problems with amazon until now ...

    Report ID is 1245911286

Hope someone can figure out what happens

    Regards,

    Fernando

Provide a Debug ID for a saving attempt. Might be due to a difference in the response due to your locale or geographic location.
  • Hi Dan,

    The Debug ID is D1273695877

    Thanks for your time

    Fernando
  • I forgot...

I am in Argentina, system locale is spanish .
  • Check your system clock. It's probably wrong.
  • Thanks! That fixed it; it was a rather weird problem: the time was OK (off for a few minutes) but the time zone was wrong, because about one year ago here the governement changed the time in a way that forced us to abandon the internet time sync and fix manually, to gmt-2 (instead of gmt-3). Later, things came back to normal (so to speak) and I changed manually the time and forgot... Strange that this showed up now.

    Thanks again, cheers

    Fernando
  • The Amazon API (which the Zotero translator uses) requires the correct time to validate the response. I've updated the troubleshooting page with a step to check.
  • Hey - was about to start a new thread but I noticed this one which is recent and similar. Report ID: 1618238859 - the Amazon translator doesn't save. The URL is http://www.amazon.com/s?ie=UTF8&tag=mozilla-20&index=blended&link_code=qs&field-keywords=insurance%20regulation&sourceid=Mozilla-search - I tried disabling all my extensions and plugins.

I guess it could be my system time, but I don't have administrative privileges so I wouldn't be able to fix that...
  • Is your system time incorrect? (Just type 'time' into Google.) If it is, that would be the problem, and there's nothing we can do about it.
  • Not that I can see, unless it's off on some sort of subsecond level.
  • And your timezone is also set correctly?

Provide a Debug ID for the save attempt.

    Timezone is correct.

    The Debug ID is D376333652.
  • that search breaks for me, too. My suspicion is that's because you searched in all departments. If you search just in books this will import fine:
    http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=insurance+regulation&x=19&y=21

OK, yeah, I can reproduce it too. Zotero is showing the book icon for search results, so it's clear that it's not parsing those results correctly.
  • Good to know. Thanks!
