zotero integration error; Mac OS; OpenOffice

Report ID: 1572530093

Mac OS X 10.5.8
Firefox 3.6.8
Zotero 2.0
OpenOffice integration 3.0a8

Hello!

I'm having word processor plug-in issues in OpenOffice. The toolbar appears in OO, but I get the following message when I try to insert a citation:

"Zotero Integration Error:

"Firefox could not load the component required to communicate with your word processor. Please ensure that the appropriate Firefox extension is installed and try again."

Here is the curious thing: OO integration was working for a while, but then stopped. Working theory: I moved OO's location on my hard drive from the desktop to the applications folder, thus creating a pathway problem of some sort.

I have read through the forums, but most solutions to this problem are geared to linux users. Nonetheless, I have made sure that:
1. Java is enabled (it is),
2. that I am using a current version of Java (I am).
3. I have also tried the two solutions in Firefox Tools->Add-Ons->Preferences:
a. Detect OpenOffice.org Paths yields:
UNO: "file:///Applications/OpenOffice.org.app/Contents/basis-link/ure-link/share/java/"
soffice: "file:///Applications/OpenOffice.org.app/Contents/MacOS/"
-b. when I click Reinstall OpenOffice.org components, it says that OO integration was correctly installed.

Other things I've tried:
4. uninstalling and reinstalling both zotero 2.0 and the OO integration;
5. restarting computer;
6. and updating OO to version 3.2.1.

What do you recommend? I'm eager to get this to work as I'm considering breaking entirely from both MS Word and EndNote.

Cheers,
Tmatza

Those should be the correct paths if OOo is located in the Applications folder, so there is another problem here.

Try closing Firefox, deleting compreg.dat, xpti.dat, and pluginreg.dat from your Firefox profile, and then opening Firefox again.

If that doesn't work, set dom.report_all_js_exceptions to true in about:config (create the entry if it doesn't exist), re-trigger the error, and generate another error report. This should help us track down the issue.
  • Hi Simon,

Thanks for your attention. I deleted the three files from the profile, and created the entry specified (choosing Boolean and "true"), then got the same problem. Here is the error report number:

    1014238981

    Awaiting further instructions!
  • simon,

now it seems to be working properly. not sure what happened, but your advise seems to have helped. thanks!
  • Error reports 1908748755 and 453122940 (after setting dom.report_all_js_exceptions to true)

    Mac OS X 10.5.8
    Firefox 3.6.8
    Zotero 2.0.3
    OpenOffice 3.2.1
    OpenOffice integration 3.0a8

I have the same "Zotero Integration Error" problem as tmatza. I tried uninstalling/installing the OpenOffice integration extension and Simon's tip above. However, I still get the integration error if I try to insert a citation. Is there a solution?
  • OK, I solved the problem by deleting '/USER/Library/Java/Extensions' (where USER is your personal account). I closed OpenOffice and Firefox before I deleted anything.

The folder 'Extensions' contained the following .jar files: mlibwrapper_jai.jar, jai_imageio.jar, jai_core.jar, jai_codec.jar, clibwrapper_jiio.jar.

Interestingly, '/Library/Java' contains an empty 'Extensions' folder and a symlink 'Home' that goes to '/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.5.0/Home'. Could a missing symlink in '/USER/Library/Java/Extensions' causing the problems or is it the jar files in the 'Extensions' folder?

Could one of the developers elaborate on the possible cause of this strange problem? I'm really curious.

    Hello,

after performing all the above suggested instructions I'm still getting the following error:

'[JavaScript Error: "this.javaObj is undefined" {file: "file:///Users/carlosoliveira/Library/Application%20Support/Firefox/Profiles/6wygmskz.default/extensions/zoteroOpenOfficeIntegration@zotero.org/components/zoteroOpenOfficeIntegration.js" line: 288}]' when calling method: [zoteroIntegrationApplication::getActiveDocument]'

Then I've tried all the steps in:

    http://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_troubleshooting#lastdatalistener_is_undefined

but I'm still gettin the same error.

    I've installed:

    Mac Osx 10.6.6
    Firefox 4.0.1
    Zotero 2.1.6
Zotero Open Office Integration Plugin 3.1b1 (I cannot get the tool bar of the latest version to appear in OO)
    Open Office 3.2.1

Does anyone know how to solve this?

    Thanks
  • Try installing Ooo 3.3 and the newest (3.5a) Ooo plugin - that should really work. I doubt Simon will have the time to troubleshoot an old version of the plugin - if you run into trouble with the new one, troubleshoot that.
