Syncing remote group library takes forever, but is still empty

In a project, we have collected a database with about 1700 zotero entries with
full texts and have bought enough Zotero-Storage to sync the entire group
library with the web and the team members' local zotero-installations.
Unfortunately, it does not work. Syncing the remote group library takes forever, but the library still remains empty.

Problem description:

I created a group library and copied the entries into the group library. On my computer, all entries and files show up nicely in Zotero. After syncing full three work days, the remote library is still empty and says "There are no items in this library." Accessing the group library from a zotero installation on another computer also displays an empty group library.

On the other hand, "My Library" is perfectly synced without any problems. Hence,
the settings must be correct.

How can I solve this problem? I hope you can help. Thank you very much.
  • After syncing full three work days
Syncing never takes that long. Restart Firefox.
  • Thank you for your response. Restarting is not the issue. I restarted the computer and Firefox a couple of times during these days of trying. There must be another problem?!
  • Does it show as syncing now? I see no active sync queuing for your account.
  • I switched the computer on. The sync wheel is spinning at the moment. Is there now any active sync queuing?
  • No. Is it still spinning?

If so, provide a Debug ID for a few minutes of the spinning.
  • Also, are you syncing with the same account you use for the forums?
  • Yes, it is the same account.

Here is the debug id: The Debug ID is D422476910.

Do you see in my account the private collection "Imported on Tuesday 3rd of August". This is the collection which I copied to the group libary (albeit with attached PDF files). As I mentioned, on this computer the group library seems to be working (all items are there including attached files), but it does not syc anything.
  • Can you provide a Debug ID for longer? Say, 15 minutes from the beginning of a sync.
  • This time it was quite difficult to submit the debug ID, because the Zotero server repeatedly responded during the submission of the debug-output with "The server returned an error, please try again". Maybe, this time, the bug report is too big. Hence, I send the bug report to your email address. I hope this will work.

If you have not received an email from me, please let me know.
  • We received it, but the output appears to be truncated. Perhaps you didn't copy all of it, or it got cut off somewhere along the way?

(Be sure to clear the output before attempting to send any more.)
  • Actually, I've taken a look in the server logs, and you really should be getting a sync error—it's possible that it's been auto-syncing and you simply haven't noticed the icon.

In any case, try the DB Repair Tool. (You don't have DB corruption, but you have another issue that the tool should fix.)
  • Okay, I just read your last message. I will try the DB repair tool.

A few minutes ago I sent a second new bug report via email which should not be trucated. Thank you.
  • I encounter the problem that the DB Repair tool only allows databases up to 70MB. Even after deleting unnecessary items and items in the trash, the zipped zotero.sqlite ist still at 116 MB. It is refused by the DB repair tool.

Dan, I will upload it to a file sharing service and will send you the download link. Is this okay?
  • Thank you. As described in another forum discussion, the DB repair tool now also works with larger databases and also described problem is solved.

Now, syncing works. The problem is solved. Thank you!!!
