Sync running indefinitely without effect

Dan

For a week I tried to sync. I got a permanently spining green arrow. I deleted my group libraries. I tried to reset sync either forcing full sync or erasing server data and sync from local data... No way !
The Debug ID is D1948601560.
Thanks for your help

Bruno
  • What is the message that shows when you hover the cursor over the green sync arrow?
  • It's in french :
"Synchronisation avec le serveur Zotero - Obtention des données mises à jour à partir du serveur de synchronisation"
Could be translated as "Synchronisation with Zotero server - getting data updated from the synchronisation server"
    Hope this helps

  • This is fairly typical for large syncs, and once it goes through once, subsequent syncs should not take this long. Just don't reset again-- it makes the sync larger, and large syncs are at the end of the priority queue.

    See http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/11730/#Item_2 for more info.
  • OK your advice is just to wait without doing anything...
but it was working fine two weeks ago and now the system is trying to sync for hours...
I let it work all night yesterday without any result.
How long should it take ?
Is there any way to totally reset the sync, not making the sync larger ?
    Thanks for your help
  • Sometimes I check via the Web account and there is no progress...
My library is not very large (25 Mo with the pdfs) and I paid for a 5 Gb storage space...
  • Yes, I suggest you keep waiting-- I don't know how long syncs are taking these days.

Perhaps Dan or another Zotero developer can check whether your sync is still queued-- if it isn't, then there might be another underlying issue.

No matter what you do, you don't want to do any sort of reset, since that just increases the size of the operation and pushes you back to the end of the queue.
  • Thanks.
I'll wait and tell you what happens (or not !)
  • Try again now.
  • I was running zotero all the time since my last message and two minutes ago, not doing anything, it was syncing again. All items seem to be now on the storage server but I don't see my collections in my library.
Any explanation for this trouble ?
    Thanks anyway
  • All items seem to be now on the storage server but I don't see my collections in my library.
What do you mean by this?
  • Collections are back now on the server
  • So now it's fine. Thanks again.
  • OK, great. These days uploads pretty much never queue longer than an hour at the busiest times (and usually much less), but there was an issue that was affecting your account. We'll put in some checks to deal with this automatically.
  • I just started using zotero a few days ago.

I've put a lot of information in the library that pops up at the bottom of the screen and I can see it and organize it, but when I go to zotero.org "my library" (the webpage itself) it says I have nothing in my library. I, too, have a spinning green sync wheel of doom.

I've gone through all the syncing troubleshoots but nothing helps.

So question one: how can I sync my stuff?
question 2: Am I at risk for losing all the data I've put into the pop up library?

    Thanks,
    Geneva

As far as I can tell, you already did.
