Hello -- I am getting a sync error when using Zotero desktop: JSON.parse: unexpected character at line 1 column 1 of the JSON data

This almost certainly means something on your computer or network is intercepting Zotero's sync traffic. If you provide a Debug ID (different from a Report ID), we might be able to tell you what, but you'll likely need to talk to your IT department.
