[Feature Request:] Specify default Collection to save to when importing via Connector

edited 5 days ago
Is there a way to specify a default collection that items imported via Connector are always imported into, irrespective of what collection I happen to have currently selected in the Zotero main window?

Several times I ended up inadvertently saving to some group library that I was browsing in Zotero instead of my own. I know I can manually select the correct collection in the little connector pop up that appears in the top right corner of the browser window. However, I prefer to have all items go directly to Zotero to Unfiled Items and sort and tag them from there.
  • I'm still trying to find a solution or workaround for this.
If this is not possible, please consider that a feature request.
  • Agree this is frustrating in a multi-group library environment.

A feature to allow import via connector to lock onto a collection and/or specific library feels like it would have significant need. Importing to "My library" should be a default or selectable option as not to inadvertently save to group library.
  • For what it's worth, Zotero pauses syncing as long as the save dialog is open, so it won't sync new items to a group library before you've had a chance to change to another location.

The Zotero Connector always uses the collection selected in Zotero, and changing the location in the save popup changes the selected collection in Zotero, so having a default location is a bit of an awkward fit. But it's possible it could save to a default location and only start updating the selection in Zotero if you then changed it from the save popup.
  • @dstillman That would be great (re: "save to a default location and only start updating the selection in Zotero if you then changed it from the save popup")

At least have an option in the settings of the connector to either save to a default location or save to currently selected collection. In my case I always want to save to My library so new ones show up in unfiled items, but others might have other workflows.
