Safari Zotero Connector fails to save Google Scholar results — Report ID 1689872112

I'm having trouble saving Google Scholar search results using Zotero Connector for Safari.

Environment:

macOS Sequoia

Safari 27.0

Zotero Connector 5.0.216 (Safari)

Zotero desktop application running

Problem:

When I open a Google Scholar search results page, the Zotero Connector correctly displays the folder icon and allows me to select publications.

After selecting publications and clicking OK, the "Saving to" popup appears, but the import stalls. Sometimes a few publication titles appear in the popup; other times none appear. No records are added to the selected Zotero collection.

When selecting just one publication, it sometimes adds the publication and other times does not.

Troubleshooting performed:

Confirmed that the Connector reports "Zotero is currently available."

Successfully saved an individual article directly from IEEE Xplore into the same Zotero collection.

Restarted Safari.

Updated Safari to version 27.0.

Reinstalled Zotero.

Reset translators in Zotero Connector Preferences.

None of these steps resolved the Google Scholar import problem.

Connector errors:

The Advanced → Report Errors section displayed two occurrences of:

JavaScript Error: "Method saveAttachmentFromResolver failed"

Location: connector.js:333:49

Error Report ID: 1689872112

Is this a known issue with the Safari Connector's Google Scholar translator or attachment handling? Is there a way to restore batch importing from Google Scholar?
  • I understand Google Scholar's access limits but I think this is a different issue. First of all, when I reach the access limit Google Scholar just blocks me with a screen explaining that is what they have done. Access limits don't explain why some individual search results download while others do not.

I can access the search results, and the Connector correctly recognizes the publications. The problem occurs after selecting them, when the saving process stalls or terminates without importing the records. The Connector reports Method saveAttachmentFromResolver failed.

Does that error indicate a Google Scholar rate limit, or could it indicate a problem with the Connector's attachment handling or Google Scholar translator? Is there a diagnostic step that would distinguish these possibilities without repeatedly attempting imports?

Can you please respond substantively to my post?

The above URL doesn't explain the error message, identify whether it indicates an attachment-handling failure, or provide a way to distinguish rate limiting from a Connector or translator problem.

This and your other thread are caused by Google Scholar rate limits. They have separate rate limiting for the Google Scholar page itself and for the Google Scholar endpoints that Zotero uses to access the metadata of the items.

Based on the Debug ID that you submitted in your other thread, you actually hit a few separate problems:
    - The Google Scholar translator issues some unnecessary/wrong requests that might make it produce a rate limiting error faster. We will fix that. EDIT: Having investigated this further, it seems like there's real issue with the translator that could cause rate limiting to occur faster.
    - Recent versions of Zotero Connector don't properly show an error when hitting rate limiting. We will fix that.
    - You are getting rate limited.

Ultimately, you are getting rate limited by Google Scholar.
