Zotero and iPads

Hello, I just would just like a definitive answer about iPads, I found one 2024 thread that mentioned it but just wanted up to date clarification.
Currently I teach students to use Zotero on a desktop computer/laptop and suggest creating the web library for easy access when out about, but I stress that they must have the desktop app installed above everything else.
I have a class who may only have iPads, and I'm aware there is a Zotero app for this, but is this similar to the desktop app or just the web library? I saw that the ios app doesn't include the word plug in, but what else is missing? Basically can they do everything else the desktop app can do on an ipad except for the word plugin? These are 1st year UK undergraduate students.
Thank you for any advice!
  • I'd say the mobile apps are closer to the web library than the Desktop app (though it is more powerful than that in a number of ways), so no, you shouldn't expect them to do everything the Desktop app can do (e.g., no advanced search, there are a bunch of smaller things), but depending on what you want to teach, I could see them working fine for a 1st year undergrad class as long as it's appropriately introduced as a more limited version of the Desktop.

If there are specific features missing from the web library that you'd like to teach and are wondering about the iOS version, best thing would be to ask specifically.
