Zotero 10 stuck on “Loading items” after database repair — missing database col

I’m using Zotero 10 on macOS.

Zotero initially failed to start with:
no such column: L.isAdmin

I backed up my Zotero data directory and used the official Zotero Database Repair Tool.

Database Repair Upload ID: 6ab509619cf12

The rebuilt database still had the same L.isAdmin error. The libraries table did not contain the isAdmin column even though the database reported userdata schema version 129.

After adding the missing isAdmin field, PRAGMA integrity_check returned ok, and Zotero could start.

However, Zotero is now stuck indefinitely on “Loading items…”.

Help → Report Errors shows:
no such column: IA.lastRead

Report ID: 57086647

My web library is not fully up to date, so I cannot simply replace the local database with a fresh copy from Zotero Sync without risking loss of unsynced items.

Could you advise on the safest way to repair or rerun the missing database migrations without losing local unsynced data?

Is your data directory in some sort of non-default location (e.g., network share or cloud storage folder)?

Can you provide a screenshot of all the files at the root of your data directory?

Have you used any third-party tools to write to this database?
  • Thanks for the response.
My Zotero data directory is in the default local location:
    ~/Zotero
It is not stored on a network share, Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, iCloud Drive, or another cloud-storage folder.
I will attach screenshots showing all files and folders at the root of my Zotero data directory.
Before this problem occurred, I did not intentionally use any third-party tool to write to the Zotero database.
After the problem had already occurred, I used the official Zotero Database Repair Tool (Upload ID: 6ab509619cf12). The rebuilt database still produced the L.isAdmin error.
During troubleshooting after that, I used sqlite3 in Terminal to add the missing isAdmin column to the libraries table and ran:
    UPDATE groups SET version = 0;
After that, PRAGMA integrity_check returned ok, and Zotero was able to start, but it became stuck on “Loading items…”. The next error was:
    no such column: IA.lastRead
    Report ID: 57086647
I have not made any further database changes since then, and I still have a full backup of the original Zotero data directory from before these troubleshooting changes.
My Zotero Web Library is not fully up to date, so I want to avoid losing unsynced local items.
Please let me know which database/backup file you would like me to inspect or restore next.
