Darkmode PDF Hyperlink Highlighting Major Distraction

There is an on-going issue with hyperlinks within PDF files being highlighted (essentially blue boxes around all names) excessively. This makes reading particularly difficult.

It has been reported multiple times:

There are users who have also given up using the PDF reader due to it being so distracting.

The issue has become troublesome enough that a user, Jkroes, has developed a plugin to try to tackle the issue:

The issue makes PDFs in dark mode almost unreadable, and it is an accessibility issue for users with sight concerns. Can this issue be a priority to get sorted, please?

We're working on making the highlights less frequent and adding an option to disable them completely. We'll see what we do with them in dark mode.
  • Thank you, Martynas. That is really, really appreciated. If I could offer a bit of feedback, I think it would still be good to have the option to colour the text and perhaps some users would like to keep the text highlighting? Giving the user the ability to customise these to their preference would be absolutely ideal. I think the text colouring in the standard blue is quite helpful. It's the highlighting that is making it difficult for me, personally.

    Thank you for your reply.
