Sync Error with 2.0 RC1 Error Number 1604793715

Hello,

Congrats on getting RC1 out. And I'm excited about trying something I just learned about today, the plug-in for the VUE free mind-mapping program. Very cool. However, I'm still trying (and failing) to get sync to work.

I tried to sync using it (I've had sync errors for all the recent previous versions as well -- see my previous posts if you want the error numbers).

The program said I had two conflicts to resolve. I chose to continue with merge choosing the default (remote) item as the correct version in the first listed conflict, and the sync quit. When I clicked on the exclamation point to get details it said the "Attachment Path cannot be set for link attachments."

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

In Peace,
Sam
  • I ran it again with debug output on, per your previous request, Dan. I got an error at the same point, error number 635542997. I posted the debug output to the server, id number: D1835719763. I hope this helps diagnose the difficulty.
    Thanks,
    Sam
  • Just on a whim, here: try emptying your Zotero trash and then syncing again.
  • Hi Dan,

I tried emptying the trash, but then got the "Attachment Path cannot be set for link attachments" error again, and got error number 396330406.

On a different computer (a G4 Mac), I upgraded to rc2, emptied the trash, and got a clean sync from that machine, and, as you predicted, the new group showed up in the left pane. I'll try upgrading to rc2 on this machine (an intel mac) now and try again.
    Thanks,
    Sam
  • Can you provide another Debug ID for a sync attempt on this computer?
  • Hello,
I ran it again after upgrading, got an error message upon trying to auto sync that there are issues to try to resolve via manual sync, and upon attempting to do the manual sync received the same error message and error number 864373162. So, as you predicted the group did not show up in the left pane.

Is there a way I could temporarily turn off the sync of my individual items on this machine (which go through my webdav) and attempt to sync only the zotero file server materials in order to get the group syncing to begin working on this machine until we can figure out how to fix this problem?
    Thanks,
    Sam
  • Oops,
Our messages crossed. You're working so late! Thanks for working on this. I ran the debug. I got error id: 295587573. The Debug ID is D686596840.
    Peace,
    Sam
  • Or,
Just a thought. Is there a way I can add to my Zotero group library via accessing the group library on the web (in other words, not through my local zotero installation)?
    Peace,
    Sam
  • The easiest thing to do is probably to create a new Firefox profile, install Zotero into it, enter your info in the Sync pane of the Zotero prefs, and sync it with the server. Since it won't have any locally modified data, it should pull down the server data without any problems, and you can add to it. Once we fix this, you'll be able to just delete the other profile.

As an alternative, you could keep your existing profile and just set Zotero to use a new, empty, custom data directory from the Advanced pane of the Zotero preferences, but it might be a bit harder to keep things straight that way.

(You could also use "Restore from Zotero Server" in the Sync->Reset pane of the Zotero preferences in your original profile, but I assume you have data there that you'll eventually want to sync.)
  • Hi Dan,
Ah, that new Firefox profile was a great suggestion. It made it possible for me to set up the group and demonstrate it to my students this morning.
    I'm grateful.
I do have some data in the old profile that it would be good to sync, if it's possible. If not, I could probably view by accessed date and see which items didn't sync. I could then try to export those items and then try to import them into the new profile, sync that, delete the old profile, and restore from the server.
    In Peace,
    Sam
