Word crashes after inserting several citations – Zotero 10.0.2 / Word 2608
Hi,
I am experiencing a reproducible problem with Zotero integration in Microsoft Word. After inserting several citations, Word suddenly crashes/closes when I try to insert another citation using Add/Edit Citation. There is no error message.
Debug ID: D1940692302
System:
Zotero 10.0.2 (64-bit)
Microsoft Word for Microsoft 365, Version 2608, Build 16.0.20326.20144 (64-bit), Current Channel
Windows
I have already tried the following:
Updated Word to the latest available build
Deleted Zotero.dotm and reinstalled the Microsoft Word add-in
Disabled other COM add-ins (Adobe PDFMaker, Dropbox, OneNote)
Confirmed that “Typing replaces selected text” is enabled
Disabled “Automatically update citations”
Tested in new Word documents
The behavior is somewhat unusual: I can insert multiple citations into an empty document without a crash. I can also type a small amount of new text and insert citations successfully. However, when working with a substantial amount of actual manuscript text, Word eventually crashes when inserting a citation. I also copied the manuscript text into a completely new document using “Keep Text Only”, but the crash still occurred.
The crash was reproduced while debug logging was enabled (Debug ID above).
I would appreciate any advice on what might be causing this or what additional information I can provide.

adomasven Zotero TeamAre you writing in a non-English language? Does it still crash if you disable spellchecking in this document for your language?
