Google Docs: “Zotero experienced an error updating your document” immediately on Add/Edit Citation

Hi,

I’m having a persistent problem with Zotero integration in Google Docs.

When I open a Google Doc and click Zotero → Add/Edit Citation, I immediately get:

“Zotero experienced an error updating your document.”

This also happens in a brand-new, completely blank Google Doc.

System
Windows
Google Chrome
Zotero Desktop: 9.0.6
Zotero Connector: 5.0.212
Troubleshooting already tried
Restarted Zotero
Restarted Chrome
Restarted the computer
Reinstalled the Zotero Connector
Tested in a brand-new blank Google Doc
Confirmed there are no other Chrome extensions installed
Confirmed the Zotero Connector can communicate with Zotero:
http://127.0.0.1:23119/connector/ping returns “Zotero is running”
There is no Google authorization prompt; the error appears immediately when clicking Add/Edit Citation.
In Connector settings, I see “Google Docs Integration”, but there is no “Google Docs Integration V2” option.

Could someone please advise what might be causing the Google Docs integration to fail immediately? I would appreciate any further troubleshooting steps or information you need from me.

    Are you logged in into only one Google Account? On Browser restart, when attempting to cite with Zotero, do you not get a popup browser window which asks to choose an account to use? Does this work in a new browser, or a different Firefox profile?

    Sometimes i would get it, and sometimes it would just say there is an error.
    But fortunately, the problem solved on its own after some time
