zotero dropping a citation in a random location when troubleshooting

When Zotero troubleshoots, it has been dropping my citations in a completely different location. This is a significant issue in a PhD thesis of over 200 pages. I have updated Word and my MacBook's IOS. What else can I do?

    What do you mean by "when Zotero troubleshoots"? The only troubleshooting mode Zotero has is the one where it runs without non-native plugins, and that really shouldn't make any difference. What exactly are you doing when this happens?

    I am just using Word for Mac for plugin, nothing strange. What I mean is when it says it has trouble processing the citation, it often drops the citation that couldn't be loaded in a different citation. I have had it drop a 2012 reference in a sentence from a completely different year. And I only figured it out when a citation I had just worked on this afternoon got overwritten by a citation that I was now working on.
