The download article seems to be the Unpaywall version.

I don't think this is the same issue. Add by identifier attaches the full pdf. (And not an unpaywall version or a preprint version.)

OK, yeah, when using Add Item by Identifier, Zotero won't currently go and load the publication page and try to download the PDF from there — it will just look for an OA PDF, and our data source, Unpaywall, currently only has the submitted version.

I am not arguing. Maybe I do not understand what you mean. It can be a different issue, sure. But what you wrote in your second post disagrees with dstillman words.

(and Unpaywall version is two pages)

I'm having the same problem with the AMS website specifically. I've been having to manually save the PDF and attach it within the Zotero application.

I can reproduce this and the error is indeed not Unpaywall but the fact that we're somehow using
https://journals.ametsoc.org/previewpdf/view/journals/apme/45/11/jam2426.1.xml

instead of

https://journals.ametsoc.org/downloadpdf/view/journals/apme/45/11/jam2426.1.pdf

for the PDF. I'd imagine this will be a quick fix; I'll take a look
