Upgrade StorageWhich item type for Peer review reports?
I recently reviewed an article on Open Research Europe, an open-access, peer-reviewed research publishing platform operated by F1000. My open review report was assigned a DOI and I am wondering what the best item type for this item is.
The recommended 'how to cite' structure is:
Author Name. Peer Review Report For: Article title [version number; peer review: number status]. Open Res Europe year, volume:issue (URL)
When I retrieve the DOI with Zotero, the item type automatically assigned is: manuscript. This does not retain all the information included in the "how to cite" instructions of Open Research Europe, in particular the information on the platform name, volume, and item is missing.
I tried to add the platform name in the field 'Institution'. This does the trick but the volume and issue are still missing. So I switched item type to Preprint. Here I put the platform name in the field 'Repository', volume number in 'Series' and issue number in 'Series number'. The final result retains all the information required by Open Research Europe, though the order is slightly different. This is quite an acceptable result: not too bad!
Still, I wonder whether it wouldn't be better to have a dedicated item type for peer review reports considering that the publish, review, curate publishing model might become more common in the future.

You want to make sure to keep this somehow separate from peer reviewed journal work when, e.g., populating your CV (I just have colored tags for different categories of work in my CV), but for citation purposes this should do the job.
We hadn't really seen many examples when we added support for peer reviews, so we picked manuscript (which is for unpublished manuscripts, principally) but probably need to reconsider that. 10.21956/openreseurope.26010.r76252 is an example peer review DOI from that platform.
I thought of using the item type 'Journal Article' but then I wanted to have the review report clearly distinguished from real articles. I will try with coloured tags as well, thank you for the tip!
As long as there is no dedicated item type I think that this is the best solution.
