Multiple computers, not syncing

I have a desktop, laptop both Windows 11. Using the latest version of zotero 9.06.
I use dropbox, but have files saved to the hard drive disk space outside of dropbox on each computer.

When I add a file on one device, I can't open it on the other, it will error saying can't locate the file. Interestingly, the path in the error message is IN dropbox.

I see an entry in the zotero storage folder on the harddrive, but the folder does not contain the pdf.

What do I need to do to correct this? I have sync set up. Is it an attanger issue?

    A bit hard to follow, but it sounds like you may have a plugin like Zotmoov or the like moving PDFs but not set up the rest of Zotero to then find them on your other computer -- do you have something like Zotmoov or Attanger installed?

    yes, I'm using attanger. So, I discovered that all my pdf were being added as links and not stored files. So, I was able to change the setting in Attanger.

    All my files had the link icon to their name.

    Is the problem now solved ?

    It's still hard to understand exactly how you got into this situation, what that full situation is, and how/where you actually want your PDFs to be saved (stored or linked ?).
