Available for beta testing: Batch editing
dstillman
Zotero Team
In the latest Zotero beta, we've added support for batch editing.
Simply select multiple items in the items list, click "Edit Multiple Items…" in the item pane, and then make changes, and the changes will be applied to all selected items. Fields that have multiple values will show "Multiple", and clicking in the field will show the available values (and "Clear all values").
This works with the new undo support, so if you make an accidental change across many items, you can easily undo it. The new in-window advanced search also makes it easy to find particular sets of items to edit.
It's not currently possible to edit creators or tags on multiple items at once, since it's hard to present those differences in a coherent way, but we can try to support those if there's demand.

joycekwcAnother great change! This is something I use all the time via Zutilo and Actions and tags. For creators, this is definitely one that I use especially for institutional authors. I do a lot of grey literature where the author isn’t included as it is from their website (eg a list of submissions). Currently I use Zutilo to do this (the actions and tags plugin does seem to support this but I don’t think it works) by creating empty item types with the author name and then copying non-empty item fields. I also do this when there are inconsistencies between how the author name is users

foss-Very welcome change which will frequently be in use, thanks.

DoomedBengalThis works great! It saves so much time cleaning up conferences and book sections. I would love to see it extended to include authors.

bwiernikEditing creators in batches would be very helpful for making creator name spelling consistent across items

jeremyvancleveYes, batch for creators would be great! I used to be able to do this in Bibdesk since it would create tags for each creator and you could then find creators with misspelled names and edit all those misspelled ones to the correct spelling.

kbmlglawBatch for adding tags would be awesome! In fact that was exactly the issue / question that led me to the forum today - to see if it was possible!

erazlogo+1 for editing creators in batches.
